what are you talking about? Nobody is expecting England to make it out of the groups. They're absolutely a sleeper pick just like Belgium, France, USA, etc.

Gurk 06-02-2014 10:43 PM

Favourite: Spain
Darkhorse: I have no idea who is considered a sleeper or not so I'll just say Iran

Nites 06-02-2014 11:18 PM

Favourite: Argentina
Sleeper: Russia

Nobody? That's not what the betting odds suggest. But yea Belgium and France are not much of a sleepers either, I would agree about the USA

that's what a sleeper pick is. It's not a team with zero chance to win like Iran or something (sorry pzabby)... it's a team that no one expects to win or to come close.

No one really expects Enlgand to do much at all this world cup. not sure how much you follow english soccer, but i do and that's an absolutely accurate statement. Expectations are at an all time low actually. Like i said i think many 'experts' would be surprised to see them come out of the groups.

Shadowfax 06-03-2014 09:28 AM

as most here know, i'm a casual fan of the game...but i love watching this event because it's definitely world class all the way
that being said, i'll make a fairly ill-informed guess to join in on the fun :o

i'll go with Brazil as my favourite...only because they hold home court

i'm going with Colombia as my darkhorse...they should get out of Group C...and if they do, i think they have a chance to make some noise

fancylad 06-03-2014 09:47 AM

i'm genuinely intrigued and unsure of what to expect from the european teams. Teams like Italy, France (who i support), Holland, Germany, Portugal. I think they can all do well, but it feels like almost a given that the south american teams have an advantage. Also intrigued by some of the African teams (ivory coast, Cameroon, Nigeria).

none taken. It's a given fact. getting a win in this group and i'm happy. get out and i'll blow a load. win the thing? I dunno what i'd do. probably go streaking wearing a torch and the iranian flag on yonge street.

i have no idea who is going to win, but my sleeper is that less than 5 people will be murdered during this world cup and that the government will peacefully quell the rioting that is bound to happen.

MrClutch 06-03-2014 01:40 PM

Favourite: Ghana
Sleeper: Ghana

party pooper

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 06-04-2014 02:58 PM

I don't think there is a clear favourite.

My top 3, with no rank, are Spain, Brazil and Germany. (Although I think Germany has taken quite a hit with all those injuries).

Then my #4 if the above teams fail to win it is Italia.

Darkhorses - Belgium is probably the #1, then Chile (if they make it to the next round) and Colombia are pretty good.

Argentina, as per usual, lack the d to win it all.

Netherlands and France's squads are very much still in construction stages and I think we'll see them having much bigger coming out parties in Euro 2016 or World Cup 2018.

My favourite group is probably Group C as there are no clear favourites. Any team can top that group or fail miserably.

Desire: I want Spain to win it all and I want Ecuador to go as far as possible, at least get past the group stage to win it all but it'll be tough with France, Switzerland and Honduras in that group.

Australia's pool is a joke

pzabby 06-08-2014 01:58 AM

I think Argentina will surprise a lot of people. It'd be an incredible legacy to leave behind for the players to win it after so many years in Brazil given the age long rivalry.
