Germany absolutely killed them. After they scored the first two goals the team completely gave up. They had no heart or will. It's the product of a very inexperienced team, who has rarely played together. Germany was also ruthless, and Brazil proved that their defense was as poor as we've all been saying. One game at a time however, Argentina and Netherlands have to look at this with some apprehension, but the Germans will be focused and ready for the final. I doubt they get too carried away, and now move onto the next task.

He's ridiculous.

I was saying today to people in my office how Robben was the most impressive person in the tournament, from what I've seen.

I know more players have scored more goals, and some players have bigger reputations, but Robben just doesn't lose any balls, and he's an absolute dribbling wizard. He gets in the box with ease and just puts so much pressure on the defense.

People at my office with more knowledge of the game then myself say he's not in the same class with Messi and Ronaldo, but I think he looks to be at their level.

If you factor in entertainment value, I think there is nobody better. The sense of urgency he plays with is beautiful. Always attacking. And he runs for miles without ever seeming to tire.

I just wish he would ease up on the embellishment.

I'm not a fan of the embellishment either, but I don't think he's as bad as most people make him out to be. He's just consistently getting in the box and forcing lazy late tackles. He's not quite as dramatic with his embellishments as some other people.

I watch a lot of club soccer, along with international soccer and I can say Robben is pretty close to Ronaldo and Messi. He's not at the same level as a playmaker as Messi is, or puts in as many goals as Ronaldo/Messi do. But he's lightening fast, wins lots of penalties, rarely loses the ball, and can score a goal seemingly out of nothing. With Bayern Munich, he's won practically everything. He goes down pretty easily, but he also gets hit a lot because players simply can't catch him. His only knock is that at times, mentally, he fades out of games. He also has missed some really important penalties, Champions League Final in extra time when Bayern went onto lose to Chelsea later on penalties, and in the German Cup final when they lost to Dortmund. But if he's on his game and running directly at a defender he's incredibly hard to stop. His left foot is immense and everyone knows he's going to it, but can't stop it. He's such a talent, and people downplay him because of some of the questions about him going down easily and some of his antics, not tracking back to defend, etc.

Kind of an aside but lots of questions about Brazil's 23 man squad come into play.

ST/CF - Fred and Jo. Rodrigo Lima from Benfica has been pretty solid. Even Jonas from Valencia is decent. There was also supposed to be mad hype about Damiao but he didn't pan out. Not to mention Diego Costa who for all intents and purposes should be playing for Brazil. But Scolari didn't value him.

GK - Julio Cesar, a guy who's played 7 games for TFC this season, and hasn't played in Europe for a while, is the starting GK for Brazil. He played well. And I don't even want to talk about the horrid backups. But how Diego Alves of Valencia isn't on the squad boggles the f**king mind.

D - I like David Luiz but I, like I'm sure many other footy fans out there, like him more as a CDM where he can roam moreso and make plays. Maicon and Dani Alves. Maicon is ancient and Dani Alves offers nothing defensively. Marcelo needs to play with a RB who can defend. And those who defended the back four were atrocious. How Miranda and Felipe Luis weren't in the 23 man squad boggles the mind.

Speaking of Robben. I dislike him but like Rene said above, everyone knows he goes with that left foot but can't stop it - credit to him. I don't think he's at CR7/Messi's level but I think he's near them, on the Iniesta, Pirlo, Ribbery, Xavi, etc. level.

interesting addition near the end there. As a side, do you think anyone in the footballing world has a chance to crack into that last tier in the near future? Bale? Neymar? Balotelli if he gets his head on straight?

Thanks.

Um, regarding the Iniesta/Robben/Ribbery/Xavi/Pirlo level?

I think Bale and Neymar are close to being there. I think barring some idiotic and unnecessary transfers (James), Bale is set to do quite well and improve. Everything has been timed perfectly. CR7 is 29, Bale is 25 and Jese is 21. When CR7 ages Jese will step up to the plate. Neymar should get there but idk how the Suarez transfer will affect his play though. Both even have the chance to make it to the top level but I don't know if they will. Neymar has more potential to do it given his age but like I said, idk how the transfer will affect his play.

Regarding Balotelli. He might make it to that Iniesta tier but he might not. Both Neymar and Bale have better chances of doing that and are already closer to it than him. Lots of issues with him.

I was referring to them making it to the messi, ronaldo tier. In my mind they're already in the xavi, iniesta, etc tier. Balotelli less so, but Neymar and Bale definitely. I'm just thinking if they'll ever hit that top top level.

we are debating which hit was dirtier, Suarez' bite or the shoulder to Kramer's head?

one leaves a scratch and the other might end a career, but will there even be any discipline for this one?
