Face it, every proffessional sports team in toronto is mediocre at best, it's been like this for years. Why do you think this is?

here are some theories

Big city, the business and money is there no matter what, seats will sell win or lose, the terrible teams in toronto aren't hurting business much at all, why win if you aren't pressed? Maybe, just maybe the NBA is trying to put money in different places..

Class athletes don't want to live in Canada, it's fucking freezing for half the year.

The toronto market is nothing compared to the rich conference rivals down south.

I'll go so far as to say that things are the way they are because three of the team are owned by the same corporation. (emphasis on the word corporation)

And the Blue Jays... well their ownership / management also has me scratching my head sometimes.

LOL do you see any of those teams making noise in the NBA? NO!
Its got to be a weird for a player with such high expectations to play great right away in Toronto, change of country etc. none of Toronto's newest bigtime athletes start well here. switching climates from say ... arizona, to toronto.. i'd have a hard time i know that.

The blue jays situation is far more understandable than the Leafs, Raps, or argos. The boston sox and new york yankees can't NOT make the playoffs with their budget and scouting.

Do teams in NY, LA or Chicago win more? Not really.

They win sometimes but not always... White Sox won few years ago and before that Bulls did but who else won in Chicago? Yankees use to win some years ago and I think Jets did recently but Knicks? Lakers are awesome but who else ever wins in LA?

It's just perception... fans in every city think that their teams suck... nothing new.

Argos won... so did Rock, many times and 15 years ago Jays did twice in a row.

CANADA, not chicago or new york. Canada, as in Toronto

chicago and detroit have never done anything in the nba. now your statement is justified, happy?

I posted some random theories, they're not my own nor do i believe them fully.

The Toronto market is large enough.

Chicago was still one of the key destinations for Kobe last season, NY is NY, Boston has won, Detroit won a few years ago. The idea that because it's colder in Canada is a ridiculous one. Southern Ontario is nothing. If there was a team in Calgary then the weather argument can be substantiated, but not this.

As for why are the teams the way they are?

The Leafs are re-building and players love going there for the most part.

The Jays have always been a tough sell. Why? Taxes, even though there are so many loopholes in Canadian Tax law that with an adequate accountant they can recoup all the money. The Raps face the same thing.

For the most part its ignorance by the masses.

Also, history was one of the best classes. It clarifies an already muddy picture.

Who used to hate history? You or me?

Is it 'lot' or is 'load'? Load of what?

Not to mention that I wasn't dwelling on the past, I just pointed that 4 largest North American markets (Toronto being one of them) had similar success in pro sports.

Out of 30 NBA teams 3 of them (SA, Chicago & LA) won well over half of the titles in the last 20 years or so... it's hard for any other team to win.

the weather thing isn't an issue

The Clippers suck and they play in LA

It has to do with the fact that MLSE runs Toronto sports, other than the Jays
they're too big for their own good
The teachers pension plan just wants a profit not team success

How about when the Blue Jays traded Bell, Fernandez and McGriff for Joe Carter, Roberto Alomar and Devon White. They didn't win the world series that year, but they did turn the team's season around that year and make the playoffs. So your theory doesn't really hold up besides cultural wise the countries aren't that different except that Canada is better.

Don't dissect his post about history too much, he just quoted it from the movie In Bruges.
