Default where is HOCKEYTOWN?

I saw this topic Montreal vs. Detroit: Which city is hockey's true lifeblood? on FanNation. Just wondering which city the guys/gals at RF consider as Hockeytown, or the epicenter for the sport.

Montreal: They've had the highest attendance in the NHL for years, mostly due to large seat capacity, and in a one sport town the spotlight is on the Canadiens. Montreal is the most successful franchise in hockey with 24 Cups.

Toronto: Arena sold out for eons and with the highest ticket prices in the league the Leafs have 5,000 people on the waiting list for season tickets. Leafs haven't won the Cup since '67 but fans still show up and they have fans everywhere in Canada and U.S. You see leafs fans in arenas all around the league, watch a Panthers game and there are more Leafs fans then Panther fans. Toronto is the headquarters for the NHL and the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Detroit: The self promoted Hockeytown as seen on their center ice, they are the most successful team in the past decade. The team has sold out games for years but now I'm beginning to see empty seats, it might have to do with the downturn in the Detroit economy though.

I'd put Toronto last, mainly because of how stupid most Toronto fans are about Hockey in general. The more knowlegeable fans are Montreal, the most passionate fans are Detroit. Toronto fans in general has neither the knowledge or passion to compete.

What a ridiculous and sweeping generalization.

Honestly.

You're walking into my world now with the Hockey talk.

Most Toronto Hockey fans are stupid?

Idiotic comment.

Well then most Toronto Raptor fans are ignorant teenaged Indian/Punjabi and asian kids that have never even played a game of organized ball in thier lives.

That accurate?

I will say that Montreal is a bit more passionate than Toronto fans but thats because they only have one pro team, Toronto has one in every sport. Toronto fans have knowledge. I think Minneapolis (Minnesota) is actually a better hockey city than Detroit. Hockey is actually important in high school/college and pros. Montreal and Toronto have more passion than Detroit.

Yep. I'm not saying you are. But most Leaf fans i know, are so because it's the thing to do. Just like going to Leaf games is the place to be, which explains how awfully quiet the crowds are at leaf games. One of the deadest crowds in the NHL. In general, many of them don't know alot about hockey. Listen to the Fan590 and other radio shows and you'd hear how delusional alot of fans really are. They're the same fans that had Tie dummy on the back of a jersey and hated Sundin, mainly because he can fight and had "heart".

Watch any game in Toronto, then watch any game in Detroit. Then tell me who's more passionate. Toronto games are dead! Even in the playoffs. I remember when we played Buffalo in the Conference finals in 99 and the broadcasters laughed at how dead the crowds were and how they played the theme to Law and order/Seinfeld in the arena. It's a joke.

Montreal, without a doubt. Toronto really pales in comparison. Montreal eats up all hockey from all levels, Toronto is an NHL city that loves NHL hockey. Montreal has a deeper history and more knowledgeable fan base. If we're speaking more about Habs fan, everyone in Mtl. is a habs fan and cares about the squad. The home arena is always packed with people who love the game and it's not simply a night out or a meeting place for a business proposition. The lower bowl is just as crazy as the upper bowl.

Exactly. Unlike in Toronto. In fact Detroit is alot crazier than Toronto as well. Hell, so is Philly! They're nuts in philly. And as much as most here hate to hear it, Toronto is probably the shitiest place in canada to watch an NHL game except maybe Vancouver. Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton also have extremly loud and rabid fans.

You need to get out more bro.

They filter the morons on th air for a reason.

I'm in radio, trust me, I know.

It's the fanatic peeps that frequent those cal in shows. Getting them confused with eveyone ion a sample groupl that is probably abour 15 million strong in Canada is a bit silly man. Thats llike 0.00001 of the populcae that supports the team, and you can travel to every city in North America, listen to the call in shows, and hear the same stuff.

You know that Jeffy, be nice man.

Update, My team got beat by Chart Attack tonight, GS didn't show, but Tyler Stuart was there wearing a sweet as all hell Kilt for RB day.

I don't think yo uunderstand just how serious most Toronto Hockey fans are. There is more to the silence than just "corperate season tickets".

Trust me man, it's a whole weird and wonderful topic. WQe should gab about it in person some night.
