Who here thinks it's a good idea?
I think the time is right to bring it in at least in some capacity. Now i do like the human element in the soccer referee... i guess i'm a bit of a purist in that regard, but i also don't like mistakes costing games which is happening a lot. So here is my proposed system: Each team is allowed one challenge per match. Plays can be reviewed via video replay if they are involved in the scoring of a goal or a goal scoring opportunity is given within the box (i.e. if a penalty is rewarded). Challenges can only be made regarding plays that occur in the box. For the purpose of not making too much change and unrest right at once, offisides CANNOT be challenged and the linesman is still 100% in charge of that. Done. simple as that. Now onto diving. Diving can additionally be reviewed after the game. If a player is found to have gone down like a complete sissy without actually being fouled then they can be fined and suspended the next match. That's it. I think it's a slow way to implement change, but it's a good step in the right direction and also wouldn't change things too much from the way they work now. |

I'm against it, simply based on the fact that alot of things in the game can be challenged and the time. The last thing I want to see is 10 minutes of injury time.
I think as far as I would go would be with questionable goals i.e. did it cross the line, handball? etc. but no more than that. |

i'm 100% with you fancy. a good video replay system would only take a couple of minutes, and i'd rather a 5 min injury time with the result determined by reality than a 3 min injury time with the result determined by referee error. limiting the situations where it can be used to the box and to once per game means that coaches have to be careful when to use it.
but the best part of your post is the after-game review of diving. the red card on kaka would be rescinded and that joke of a diver suspended for at least the next game. that kind of garbage ruins the reputation of the game. it needs to stop. your solution doesn't slow the game down at all, but if these pansies risked missing games for their fakery you'd have to think they'd step it down a few notches. solid plan. |

I think I would look at using it after games for diving to start with. My fear would be that refs play it safe knowing that there could always be a review. I think they could develop the habit of not making calls, and letting the camera do the hard work for them, but if there is only one challenge then that sort of habit would result in a worsening situation.
Missed calls are going to happen regardless. I think if they needed to worry less about making calls when a guy is rolling around on the ground, and could be freed up to make the call only when they have clearly seen an infraction, with the camera there to red card either a diver or an actual guilty party in any case, then the refs could be able to focus on some of those other bigger calls. |

for me, the post-game review has to happen if the game wants to be anything but a total joke. as of right now, i'm just about done watching this crap. i'm not in favour of any in-game reviews or challenges. |

That bad thing about diving is that its too successful for players wanting to stop it. THerefore diving will always be in the game unless its inforced some way.
As for video replay I dunno if i'm for it and I really dont' think it will ever happen. I'd like to see electronic offsides though. Have some sort of computer system pick up the ball and the Defense to offensive players and beep if the ball is offside. I'm sure it can be done without question. |

I think offsides is the least of worries.... they are surprisingly good at it.
you are right about the success of diving, though..... another great example just moments ago when the swiss player conned the ref into awarding a yellow. it's so bad now that even countries that typically don't get caught up in it are forced to employ it as a tactic otherwise they are at a competitive disadvantage. and i am as certain as i could be that a system of supplementary discipline would eliminate almost all of it. |

review goals since play is already stoped and in their 1 minute celebration and guy can review it and tell the ref
after games you can review cards i.e. Kaka shouldn't have the 2nd yellow and should be reinstated for the Portugal game that is all |

It's ridiculas that there is one ref on a pich that size. There are three refs on one tenth the size in basketball and hockey.
Go to the three ref system and have video review. One a half. The game is too steeped in tradition. Unfortunatly, diving is one of the traditions. Ruins the game for me. |

at the very least they should employ a 2 ref system on the field and have an additional goal judge at each end of the pitch as for diving ?...a complete embarrassment to the game (and sports in general)..when i see it happen i want to reach into my tv screen and bitch-slap the player |

THe goal ref was a absolute failure in the test they did this year in the Europa League.
The number of refs is fine, the game only needs two things, first, game suspension for obvious divers. The reviewing of card sanctions after the game already exists in most leagues. Its pretty bad though. Second. Phantom goals should be seeing in video replay or they should put a chip in the ball that tells the ref when the ball has gone all the way in the goal so the game is not stopped. Offsides and handballs should be left alone, they are part of the game. I dont know for the challenge system, I dont think it could work. 1 call for each team is not enough, they would never know when to use it, specially because the players and coached are wrong most of the time themselves about what happend in a play. There are so many calls that are 50/50 really. |

. Seriously, I think offsides should be computerized somehow. Maybe a computerized line with the defenders to beep at some time. I dunno just throwing in an example I'm not thrilled about the challenge system either. Also, like most sports calls are always 50/50. |

yeah, but how many times you cant even say its an offiside in a play even in a replay. Depends on the position of the body, the feet, the passer, the defender thats breaking (or not) the offside. I dont think its posible. Its complicated really, if a ref calls offside and the video replay shows that it wasnt, the chance the score will be gone anyway. We have to live with some screw ups, its inevitable and it gives "some" fun to the game. With better refs (not ones that have only called games in the new zealand league) and a couple of small changes I think the improvement would be so big.
