UFC 87 - GSP vs. Fitch

Anyone going to watch it this weekend?

Does St. Pierre stand a good chance to end Fitch's winning streak?

Yes, St. Pierre is the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

He is also one of the smartest.

You can be sure that he is watching game tap and been planing for this for quite some time now.

Quote:

The five-foot-10 St. Pierre routinely does chin-ups with a 120-pound dumbbell attached to a belt. He uses those same 120-pound dumbbells for presses. When it comes to vertical jump, seen as a direct correlation to leg power, he can do five 48-inch hurdles in a row. His record for a standing box jump is 54 inches.

Better than Silva?

Ugo Ferst 08-08-2008 05:00 PM

1) GSP is the fav in this fight, too much so imo Fitch is no joke, but GSP should win

2) IMO Fedor + Silva are both better P4P then GSP

3) The best fight of the night will be Florian vs Huerta, i pumped!!

4) GO BROCK GO, show the world you have a future in the game, HW Champ in 2 years!

Yes.....

I'm not a die-hard MMA follower, but have gotten into it over the last little while. When I asked if Silva was a better pound-for-pound fighter than GSP, I wasn't challenging you Snooch but more for my own knowledge because I've heard so much about Silva and have only had the pleasure of watching him fight once. :)

Not many would agree with that, in terms of Silva.

And Fedor dominates everyone, has lost only 1 fight in his life and demolished the guy in the rematch, after he smokes Couture im sure there will be no doubt, not only is he the best HW and P4P, he may be the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

Unless you believe the crap Rickson Grace talks :P

No, never took any offense, I was expecting someone to call me out on that one.

Silva is heralded as the best pond for pound in the world but I think that GSP has more than Silva.

GSP fights smarter and can do everything very well from stand up to wrestling to juijitsu.

Silva can hit and knock you out from any angle and has a decend scramble and is pretty good on his back.

I just like GSP more but both are undoubtedly great fighters.

Ugo Ferst 08-08-2008 05:08 PM

GSP has lost to Serra and Hughes in the not so distant past, i dont really see how he could be considered P4P atm when guys like Silva and Fedor havent lost for ages, and Silva just destroyed Henderson, considered to be a P4p candiate recently.

Ugo Ferst 08-08-2008 05:15 PM

BTW Doc, glad to hear you coming around and going to start watching the best sport in the world!!! Its addicting to watch in the right atmosphere and these guys are truely modern day gladiators.

FR33RIDE 08-08-2008 05:27 PM

My picks; GSP by TKO, Lesnar by decision, Florian by submission

Ugo Ferst 08-08-2008 06:47 PM

btw when it comes to pound for pound i pretty much agree with this site..
http://www.fighting-mma.com/top10/pound-4-pound.php

and i agree with all your picks, but i feel Lesnar will win by KO.

I was able to catch all the fights from this site last month.

Hope this is kosher .... if not, delete please.

I've been watching this stuff for a while now - which doesn't mean I know anything, but I know what I've seen. While I'm a GSP fan, I've gotta go with Silva as the best right now. He just makes things look so easy.

That said, Fedor Emelianenko is freakin scary good. I don't see a heavyweight out there right now who'd stand a chance against the guy, but I thought the same about Crocop and he fizzled out when he came over.

Fedor also destroyed Cro Cop b4 he went over aswell.

Anyways, 2nights card was pretty good, GSP pretty much dominated Fitch, setting up a GSP vs Penn match it seems, i dont think BJ can step up and take GSP myself.

Brock looked impressive, even if that fight was boring, if/when he learns from real submission skills, he will be a beast.

Florian won, but i was unimpressed, he backpedalled more then ive ever seen him before.

FR33RIDE 08-10-2008 03:22 AM

3 rounds = win penn , 5 rounds = win GSP

I just can't get into this at all. I've tried, but too often, it just looks like dudes humping to me. Give me boxing any day.

Nope.

Nothing against UFC and all the fans here but I just never found UFC as entertaining.

do you mean MMA in general or just UFC? Are you an old Pride fan or something?

This is truely the truest sport in the world imo, you find out what people are all about. Human chess at its finest, they putting their hearts, souls and bodies on the line to prove they are the best. Its a different level of sport.

dfunkie1 08-10-2008 07:59 PM

i'll bite

mma isn't a sport

i also don't care what you have to say about that. happy?
