Thomas declines invitation as Bruins make White House visit
Kind of childish. Visit shouldn't have anything to do with politics. Was funny to see the other people that did this included 5 nascar drivers a few years ago. As much as I like Tony Stewart, it was silly too, and likely before he had to find his own sponsers befor he owned the team. |

I'm not sure that I understand your criticism. I think it shows how warped reality really is.
For me, I can think of a few contexts in which I might not show up. 1) I strongly disagree with their political stance, 2) I consider it a frivolous waste of taxpayer money and a distraction from real issues, 3) I'm entirely indifferent to the pomp and circumstance. To me, it sounds like he is standing by his principles, and I don't really see a problem in that. Obama doesn't know almost any of the people he works for, and I don't see how that is relevant. |

I bet when Timmy was languishing in Europe, he never dreamed that he would one day have such a glorious opportunity to take a meaningful political stance such as this one. Maybe that has been what has motivated him to be so good.

Uncanny how every single one of you missed the point.
Hockey is very ,much a team game. The culture of the game is not one that really looks kindly upon players who place themselves or their own interests above the team. There are likely more players that didn't give a shit about going to the White House, but they went, because that's what the team was doing, and that's what you do. Thomas and his political agenda don't really mean shit to be honest, but from a Hockey perspective, this is not the first time Timmy has stuck his finger up at his own team. I get it, Goalies like to be weirdo's and think they are so different yadda yadda, he's still gonna catch a bit of shit for it though. As for his views. Sports and Politics need to get separate rooms. I don't think athletes should really be using such a huge platform to shoot out their views. But, free speech..whatever... people gonna say what they need to say i guess |

If he's given a soapbox and he uses it in a meaningful way then I couuld care, even if I disagree. I just need some specifics. Ali didn't just say he didn't want to be a soldier, he said he didn't see the point of killing people he felt were as much his brothers as anyone else. When Steve Nash was against the Iraq war, he made a point of saying he flt people were being asked to die for oil.

it is the same thing, undoubtedly. a political statement made in sport. too bad there are only certain places where we can discuss topics of interest, especially when responding to something you brought up.

Nothing but a bunch of bitter Leafs fans.
I bet you didn't give a shit when ardent Glenn Beck supporters Tony La Russa and Albert Pujols didn't show up with the rest of the Cardinals a few weeks ago or when James Harrison was a no show twice. |

Drill Baby Drill
After launching 9600 attack sorties against BP controlled oil exporter Libya, Obama now has opened up the pristine, safe seafood, and oil free beaches of the Gulf of Mexico to major league deep water drilling operations. Obama Administration Announces New Gulf Oil Exploration Deal - US News and World Report Gulfport Beach, Mississippi, the oil doesn't ever stop flowing in. ![]() |
