Tennis thread...

So with Nadal and federer showing they are human again and that they can be defeated, who do you think it will step up and be number one next year.
Do you think Nadal will have another awesome year?
Murray, Djokovic, Del Potro, Simon, Tsonga, and others....

IMO Murray is going to be number one next year. Dude is the most complete player out there after federer IMO. And even he has a great service, he doesnt rely on it to win like many other big guys do.

Kris 11-03-2008 06:10 PM

I don't know about Murray reaching number 1. I really do believe that Nadal and Federer have a hold on that. I'm v. v. excited about Del Potro and Simon. I was watching the Simon-Nadal match a couple of weeks ago, and turned off the TV because I thought Nadal would win ... I was so v. wrong.

Belsius 11-03-2008 06:19 PM

yeah this Simon kid can really play under pressure, I dont know how many Tie breaks he won in Madrid. Some of those shots he hit againts Nadal were pretty insane. If Nadal trully rests for a while I agree thats it will be difficult to lose the number 1 spot. But if he doesnt relax a little he is going to get a serious injury at a young age.

Kris 11-03-2008 06:55 PM

Yeah Nadal definitely needs to take some time off before the next season begins. Especially with both the Masters Championship and the Aussie Open being played on hard courts ... it's going to he murder on his knees.

Belsius 11-03-2008 07:05 PM

well, he is already not playing Shangai due to injury, so I supose he will get a good rest.

Kris 11-03-2008 07:28 PM

Oh he's not playing Shanghai? I didn't know that. Well, he wont lose his number 1 spot, so that's OK ... let him get the rest!

I think the second tier you mentioned there bel is exactly that, the second tier. Nadal and Federer have played a ridiculous amount of tennis compared to some of the others you have mentioned and when push comes to shove during the major events (wimbeldon, french, australia and US) those two always end up dominating the events.

Now, I'd say Djokovic is next to take that BIG step. He had some really good matches this year and on the hardcourt he's an unbelievable player and quickly becoming one of my favourites. Simon, Tsonga and Murray are there and will win their fair share but for at least one more tennis season federer will be amongst the top and then slowly slide down. I think Nadal is the next real thing.

I don't watch a lot of tennis, I play it :D...K factor ftw!!!

Back to the topic, I gotta agree with the first post, murray's the complete package and he'll be #1 next season but anyone see this kid, tsonga play?...i watched some tournament yesterday and the kid's serve is amazing...he had about 24 aces against nalbandian and the kid's gonna surprise a lot next year or the year after.

Federer will be healthy and back on top next year, so it doesn't matter about anyone else.

I second that. I'm not sure if he'll be No. 1 at the end of the year, but last year was a fluke and he is going to rested and fit and ready to contend again. And I so look forward to it.

I think a lot of people who watch tennis also play it. I certainly do. What about you guys?

Murray's not going to be No. 1 unless something ridiculous happens to Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. They are the Top 3 for a reason. They're playing at a level higher than any of the others. Murray's time will come, but not at the end of next season.

Federer wasn't healthy for most of last year and he STILL PWND everyone save Nadal lol... if he's back to 100% then forget about it. He's still #1 with a bullet.

Belsius 11-04-2008 10:24 AM

I use to play a lot like 6 years ago when I was sports junkie and played basketball, soccer and tennis. Now at 22, I only play basketbal twice a month or something and after 50 meters Im dead tired. lol

I played tennis a couple of times like a month ago and I completely sucked.:(

True enough. Gilles Simon VS. Roger Federer (Round 1 of the Toronto Masters) comes to mind ... I was there watching it and was blown away by the shock.

I still play tennis regularly over the summer, but it's taking a lot out of my poor knees. And I'm only 24. This depresses me.

Firstly, it's called the Rogers Cup :D and I couldn't believe my eyes either, Federer just wasn't into it. I play tennis regularly too, made junior semis in doubles in the fall (high school regionals) and can't wait till summer for singles. To be honest, I'm not the greatest player but I started practicing a lot so I hope i win a medal next year :D
