Am in Montreal with the family for the men's tournament ... watched Jo Willie beat Fed last night. Going for another night match tonight.

No interest in the women's event at all ... meh.

Sharapova who? In the land of the Tennis Follies, as they moved to Toronto this week, the big takeaway, for once, was an off-court sighting. Our man Drake. Smiling. Rooting. There to go Penny Lane, if you will, for his friend, Serena Williams.

With benefits?

Faster than you can say Kunis-Timberlake, the blogosphere lit up this week when it was reported that the Forest Hill-bred rapper and the tennis champ were spotted coming and then going at a Florida resort last week. And then, well, followed the nothing-to-hide display at the Rogers Cup here, over at the Rexall Centre, just days ago. While the fact that these two enjoy each other’s company isn’t exactly a new revelation — I reported back in April that they’d been spotted hitting some tennis balls at a private midtown club in Toronto — what it’s fair to surmise is that an even further bond has formed.“She’s his type. Drake has never been about the anorexics,” someone who knows someone told me the other day.

And, possibly, it turns out, it could have all been an agent hook-up. Last fall, Page Six in the New York Post reported that Serena, who previously dated the rapper Common, had her eyes squarely on the happenin’ musician. She’d asked her “people” to
arrange an introduction, it was suggested, with a source going on to tell the paper, “They’re hoping to fix up a meeting when he plays Radio City later this month.”

Drake, who’s five years younger than the racquet virtuoso, has been shy about his love of the older demographic. In one particular interview, he once declared, “I like older women … I love experience and maturity and conversation.”

Djokovic lost! He lost! To Murray, after injuring his arm. Wasn't it his shoulder that hampered him for so long before this year? They really need to cut back on the rigorous scheduling for these guys.

McEnroe has been talking all week about the grind of the schedule, and how it needs to change. He really made an emphasis of it today.

I'm not gonna lie.... I'm STILL gutted after watching Fed choke again against Novak.

He didn't choke. He just peaked too early. Once Novak found a way to play even with him there was no way Federer was going to be able to pull out the win unless Djokovic handed it to him. And he almost did hand it to him. I think Djokovic's shoulder is hampering his game again. I'll call Nadal slam #11 right now.

If we were talking about a guy like Andy Murray who's still trying to break through I'd agree.... but Fed. has been here MORE than enough times to know better.

Novak played great... taking nothing away from him.... but almost 60 unforced errors from Roger (most of which had to have been in games 3,4 & 5)?

Unacceptable. He was THROWING points away... esp. in the 4th.

You could just see how disappointed he was as he shook Novak's hand at the net too. Sad.

On a side note..... VERY happy for Sam Stosur. She played her ass off. Well deserved.

I'm also starting to really Serena and her childish antics. Just makes me appreciate champions like Fed. and Nadal even more.... because they win AND lose with class.

Federer's errors aren't just mental though. He has a tough time with the pace and spin that guys like Nadal and Djokovic offer. They don't give him a lot of free points when they are on their games, and they know how to keep him from finding his groove. It's a fine line, but he's simply a half-step below those guys, so for him to impose his will on a match he has to be perfect while a Djokovic has so much confidence to carry over that he can find a way to win even when he's less than perfect.

Eh. People said the same thing when Tsonga came back from 2 sets down to beat him.... and Fed. just manhandled him this time out in 3 straight sets.

I don't think that Roger has to be perfect at all... he just can't be horrible.

Again... 60 unforced errors... that's HORRIBLE.

If Novak would have had a ton of aces and winners I'd agree... but he didn't.... and he was one lucky-ass shot from losing the match.

I think Fed's problems are mental right now TBH... that and I think that Novak FINALLY realizes that he can beat Fed now... and that's huge.

Not getting that long third game was a killer for Nadal. Djokovic has been spotty at times, but his overall level of excellence is just incredible. You can't have a big enough lead against this guy. Look at all the errors from Nadal, who is usually nearly perfect. He's not choking. He just has to do that much more than usual, like Federer had to, and even then there's nothing Novak can't handle.

Why is Nadal letting him dictate the play when he's floating his serve in?

It is strange, he's way off the baseline. Makes no sense, he's in big trouble!
