how can Nadal be #1? Federer has been a lot better in the past year, especially in grand slams

This season, Federer has won only the Aussie Open.

Federer needed to defend the 2,000 points that he obtained for winning the French Open tournament last year. Since he lost in the quarter finals, he only obtained 360 points so, between last year and this year, he lost 1,640 points from his 10,030 total to leave him with 8,390 points.

In contrast, Rafa lost in the Round of 16 last year ... he needed to defend his 180 points at this years tournament (which he did so he didn't lose any points) AND he won the tournament, which added 1,820 points to his 6,880 total. This puts Nadal's points total at 8,700 points.

8,700 points > 8,390 points.

point system is sort of wack especially when that Safina girl couldn't do anything in majors and she was #1, when the actual one should've been Serena
to me and most of the public majors are the most important

You're not comparing Safina being number 1 to Rafa being number 1, are you?

yes no, just pointing out that #1 in rankings doesn't mean best player, even though it should, hence the purpose of rankings

Rafa has won four tournaments now, including this one major, while Fed tanked in this major. I don't see the problem. In any case they only really care about where they stand at the end of the year. And I don't see how Nadal going into Wimbledon ahead of Federer is any kind of disservice. It only makes sense that the guy riding the crest of a wave edges out the guy that crashed into the rocks.

It says something when Fed goes out in the quarters and that's seen as "tanking" lol.... People have become so used to his brillianc that any time he doesn't make a final it's because he might be "getting too old" or might have "lost a step".

That being said Nadal definitely deserves that #1 ranking. He's playing his ass off again now.

Wimbledeon should be damn good.

I mean, it was the same last year when Rafa lost in the fourth round and people were all panicky about it.

It pisses me off when arrogant gasbags start predicting the end of the line for players like Roger and Rafa after one or two mis-steps in tournaments ... "Oh, he's never going to get back to being world no. 1 ..." I really feel like punching them when I hear stuff like that ... and you know me, I'm not the biggest Roger fan ever but still ... the guys a magician on court ... so he lost early, big deal. He'll come back. Grrr.

38/50 for men ... got the top 25, at least. Forgot how to spell Troicki ... gah.

A terrible 19/50 for women ... not surprised.
