Make it five in a row! For the fifth consecutive year, Canada has won the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship, scoring in the game’s first minute to spark a golden victory over Sweden on Monday night.

Good for them. I just don't care about Junior hockey though, possibly b/c I'm a fairweather hockey fan.

Some of the most exciting hockey games ive watched in awhile in this tourny invovling Canada. Canada/USA was epic and so was Canada/Russia, good job boys!!

Aar_Canada 01-06-2009 01:18 AM

Do the other countries care nearly as much as we do?

Windex 01-06-2009 01:40 AM

Canada is the only country that cares about it and TSN. I'm still glad Canada won though:yeah::dancing:

Oh I can guarantee you that Sweden, Finland and Russia care a great deal. The USA puts a lot into it as well.

good for Canada...

do they really have to have this tournament every year?

Who knows if they should, but that was easily the best hockey I've ever watched. Maybe not last night's game, but Canada's games against the US and Russia were simply amazing. :appl:

It's true that it's entertaining. It's just that sometimes i think there are way too many international hockey tournaments (compared to other sports). Maybe if they made it every two years (or the customary four years) it would just mean more - or in my case it would actually mean something. yes i know... i'm a hockey hater.:sigh:

You might be right fancy, but I think this is one of the only tournaments that really matters. Sure alot of these kids have already been drafted by NHL teams and will rake in their millions in due time, but there's still a sense of innocence about them and they truly are playing for pride and for their countries.

Junior level hockey >>> professional hockey any day. ;)

Congrats guys.

Ugo Ferst 01-06-2009 10:31 AM

This tourny is huge of teams scouting players in the future, every 4 years would be awful.

Jay 01-06-2009 11:20 AM

Now people (at least in the GTA) can go back to ignoring junior hockey. I go to a lot of Battalion games and it's embarrassing how empty the place is for one of the best teams in the country with one of the country's best players (Hodgson).

Not really. The Euro countries see it as a secondary tournament and only really pay attention to the final (population wise).

The World Championships held every year, that's a big freaking deal there meanwhile here, it's really on the backburner.

yeah that's the other one.

seriously - two major tournaments every single year?
It's just too much!
