Call him a dick if you want, maybe he is, but he is absolutely right.

I look forward to 2018 when the NHL guys won't be there. Maybe then we'll see actual hockey teams instead of all-star teams.

How are these not actual hockey teams? I for one want to see the best.

Also, don't get your hopes up about no NHL participation in the 2018 Olympics. I would be shocked if they don't find a way to get NHL players there.

the good thing about the NHLers in the olympics is that it's the only true international hockey impetition out there. it's the world cup of hockey.

and they can bring back some canada cup type thing, but sorry it won't mean as much to other countries as it might to Canada.

no other hockey tournament carries the same prestige as the olympics. and i would say this is ESPECIALLY true to the players as well.

I don't know if I agree.. What is a pro in your opinion? Ex: basketball if nba players are not allowed to play, than euroleague players shouldn't be allowed either.

i guess you could say there's a fine line...but i don't think too many snowboarders etc etc are making 7 mill a year salaries over 6 years

i just prefer so-called unknown over the pro

for example...was watching the women's 10 k classic (?) this morning at the gym...gotta say i was absolutely blown away by the competition...the power/strength/endurance/athleticism was off the scale good

but the best part for me is that i had no idea who any of them were ...i got caught up in it and was privately cheering/admiring everyone of them

it was pure sport for me...but that's just me

it is my impression that most olympic athletes are amateurs. Medal winners usually get $$$ from their countries and ads but they dont technically get paid to compete.

I dont think phelps gets paid to swim, but he obviously gets paid.

Most of the figure skaters are pros. They do all kinds of comps and touring shows. The snowboarders are sponsored. The issue is that we are familiar with nba and nhl pros and not with pros of lesser known sports. I dunno, I just want to see the best of the best compete.

yeah realistically there is nothing separating patrick chan from sydney crosby, except sydney participates in a sport where, outside of the olympics, he has a chance to make millions of dollars.

They are not teams because they don't play as a team until the Olympics. 2 weeks of practice does not make a team, imo.

As for 2018, Daly's comments the other day were a pretty clear indication that they do not want the players there and that this is likely the last time they will be allowed to go.

I dunno, I disagree with it completely.

My memories for Vancouver 2010 are Alexander Bilodeau winning, Joannie Rochette finishing third, and that speed skater winning gold and then going to kiss his girlfriend. It's actually the first three thoughts that immediately pop into my head because of just how powerful they were.

Canada winning the gold, well, to be honest, I didn't watch that game so it didn't resonate with me.

I think it's a shame that the only aspect of the Olympics it seems that people care about is the hockey tournament. It's the one I could care about less. Same with summer for me in terms of basketball. Could care less.

totally agree with you Claudius. the hockey is great, but it's secondary for me as well. Just like basketball is in the summer games.

More related to the games i just found out Plushenko is pulling out. BAH! now i have to switch my avatar.

Didn't see the game, but everyone I talked to said Canada outplayed them and Rask stood on his head.

Pissed that the Snowboard Cross was postponed. I have Mondays off so I stayed up last night to watch it only to have them reschedule to Tuesday.
