And i don't want to watch Chess either. Soccer players are unbelievable athletes and soccer is a difficult sport, but it doesn't mean i have to like the sport.

I think you're making silly statements (a goal the size of a house etc.) but whatever. Personally, I'd like to see you either:

a. with a defender on you, willing to take out your knees if need be, come rushing in, keeping control of the ball and then trying to beat a keeper who is cutting the angle on you. you'll then understand why some miss and why some strikers are adored.

b. stand 30-40 yards out and try to hit the target with either a laser that hits your mark or a beautiful touch where the ball curves just out of the reaches of the keeper.

Once you do those two things I'll appreciate your comments.

Many North Americans are too obsessed with the end product.
Or *gasp* there are different ways to watch a sport. And each of us has different needs.

You guys are talking about soccer as some sort of masterful chess match? Really?

Sports is as much for watching as it is for doing. And those who don't partake, have just as much of a right to have an opinion on the matter, as those who do.

I guess you're saying you'll never like soccer then? I fear you'll never grow as a person and will remain stuck in neutral for the next 20yrs. At which point you will look back and think you're life could have been fuller and richer had you only embrassed soccer. lol

claudius has given us an option as a way to watch soccer. jeff has said it's not worth watching in any way. there's a big difference in those two approaches.

and it is a chess match. absolutely it is. a slow march, move by move, based on a gameplan, that creates suspense along the way, and ultimately results in an opportunity to strike is exactly how i would describe chess.

and if i may speak to cg's other point, not meaning to put words in his mouth, it's not that spectator's don't have a right to an opinion, it's that an opinion is worth a lot more if it comes from someone who knows what he is talking about, and even more if that person has actually participated in it.

You guys are the types who, y'know, you like what you like but it's unfathomable that someone else might not like that same thing. But you're so sure that everything you like is the absolute greatest (whether that's food, music, etc), that if someone doesn't like it, there must be something wrong with them because they just don't understand. So, you try and teach us because we're incredibly stupid and lack the ability to grow.

And yes, the video is funny.

I really don't understand total hate for a sport. Every sport has anupside in it its just if you choose to give it a chance. I've never given cricket a chance but I'm sure I'd find something good in it.

Personally I love soccer, next to basketball its definately my favourite sport. Its great to have these two sports to watch because they give you a totally different feeling and the contrast is amazing.

Every sport has its faults too and in soccer diving is one of them. You learn to accept the bad to enjoy the good. We all deal with some bad in NBA basketball so I'd have the same arguments why the NBA sucks. Well I personally think the NBA does fail the sport and enjoy NCAA ball much more even though the talent is much thinner.

the part where the guy kicks the ball, and it hits the other guys leg yet he grabs his face is hilarious.

and the one where the player and coach like touch heads and get knocked out lmao

Most of them have to be drunk out of their minds to watch it. And when all else fails start a riot.
