Default Should college athletes get paid

Heard the debate on the FAN today and heard how much the schools and the NCAA is making just off the March Madness tournament.

So, should they get paid? Consequently, should then Canadian athletes get paid?

There is way too many questions for it.

Do star players get paid more? If you pay men sports, you have pay women sports. women sports all lose money I believe in the end. Does each sport get paid equally? Do walk on get paid?

Sport players get free ships & money to live on. More then any other college student gets. It would be nice to pay them more but it will never happen cause of all the questions.

the NCAA is too weak to handle any type of payment rule
if they agree students athletes should get the minimum wage/hour of work some states have a higher minimum wage and students will be attracted to those schools... same with taxes
what happens when a school can't pay the amount since most athletic departments already lose money? will the NCAA cover it?
then there's gender equality that was mentioned. women's sports generate about 5-10% the income of an athletic department yet they are 40% of the student athlete body.

College athlethes shouldnt' get paid. You go to school mainly for an education and thats the way it should be. I know its big business in the states but here is one thing hockey does better than Basketball and Football.

Have your feeder teams to be non college leagues or paths. Hockey having CHL as main feeder league and AHL as develpmental league makes it better IMHO. I know some college kids get drafted and baseball has similar outlets but personally I think its the better way.

Saying that NCAA won't die with their sports (football esp) now .

Every major team sport has an option other than college as a pathway to the pros, except football. So I think they already have the opportunity to get paid (even though its not a great deal of money). Going to college gives you more exposure in the media and results in a bigger pay day once you get to the pros. Basically trading no salary for 1-4 years in order to make more later.
