Rate All-Star interest

Which All-Star experiences interests you the most out of the four major North American sports leagues. Rate them in order of your personal interest.

For me:

NBA- Still think that the whole weekend itself is the one that gets me the most interested. The game itself is kind lame but for me the overall weekend gets me the most interested.

MLB- Enjoy the HR derby even if it's too long. The game itself actually is the best of the four, the competition level is hisghest of the other leagues imo and there's at least something on the line.

NHL- Mehh, was never a huge fan of it. Skills conpetition is pretty lame and the game itself is dull as fuck. But it's still better then the NFL probably by a long shot.

NFL- :bored:

Does anybody even watch the NFL allstar game? I have always wondered why they did it after the whole season was done as well.

fancylad 07-12-2011 12:09 PM

MLB has the best game as far as how it reflects the quality of the sport, but the worst skills competition.

the NHL and the NBA all star games themselves are about the same as far as entrainment goes. I don't watch either.

I'd say the NHL has the best skils competition if you're looking at the whole event.

While i enjoy(ed) the slam dunk contest and the 3 point contest, the way the NBA has chosen to judge and present the slam dunk contest has totally ruined it for me. The event has become a total mockery thus i hate it and won't bother with it anymore.

Windex 07-12-2011 12:13 PM

baseball
I'm a huge football fan and even I can't stand the Pro Bowl
NBA and NHL are the same to me.

th3answ3r 07-12-2011 12:18 PM

basketball, dont care if competition isn't really there. Watching the best play in one game is exciting.

See, for me the NBA at least allows the dunk contestants to have creative freedom. Players are allowed to create and plan their dunks and try to show us something we haven't already seen. Now it often has fallen flat in the last couple years, but it certainly gets my interest b/c you just don't know what you're gonna see. Which imo is better just for that alone. I also love seeing the 3pt competition.

the winners are already determined before they dunk and really goofy props have become more important than physical ability. Until they change that and make it more of a competition and less WWE, then it will continue to be lame.

Still peaks my interest a little more then MLB, and a lot more then seeing a player shoot a puck or the pro bowl. They all have their level of Lame really, just depends on what you want.

Like Windex I'm a huge football fan and the probowl is worthless. Really just for the players to have a good time and go out to Hawaii(where is it usually held at). No defense. Nothing at all.

MLB game is probably the best game I would say. Now for the whole weekend you could argue the NBA & NHL with its skill contest and stuff like that.

Someone read Doug Smith's blog this morning. :cookie:

No i saw the debate a couple forums. I barely read Doug's blog these days, he's pretty boring when not talking Raptors.

Shadowfax 07-13-2011 12:28 PM

MLB is the only game that even remotely resembles a regular season game...even then, i have very little interest
as for the rest...absolutely ZERO interest

regarding skills...all are pretty lame, but the NBA (dunk contest) has actually achieved a lofty "embarrassment status" for the sport itself..imho

fancylad 07-13-2011 01:01 PM

the thing that kills me about the dunk contest is that it has all the ingredients to be a great event. In it's day it was a GREAT event... and then something along the line happened that made the league and martketing types just ruin it. Suddenly every dunk contest had to involve some bullshit story or be some sort of coming out part for a player. The whole thing is a sham and the judging is a JOKE. Demar was right to say he'll never be in a slam dunk contest unless it's in Toronto. The kid knows how they 'work'.

js12 07-13-2011 01:03 PM

Slam dunk contests the last few years have been terrible. There was rarely pure talent and now it's all props.

For example the Superman "dunk" should not have counted since it is the slam dunk contest. It wasn't even that great. It was just because he put on a frigging Superman costume and did the Soulja Boy.

bjjs 07-13-2011 02:40 PM

We might be able to look back on Demar's Showstopper paired with Griffin's lame Car-dunk and say that saved the dunk competition. The fan base and the league seemed in unison when it came to recognizing the bullshit involved in this year's dunk contest as well as the beauty of Demar's particular dunk.

We'll see if the dunk contest goes back in the direction of it's grass roots next year, hopefully prop dunks going the way of the dodo.

I'm no NFL fan, but from what I've heard it's to reduce the effect of any injuries that may happen at the all-star game.

As for favourite, it's definately the NBA. The dunk contest is always fun to watch compared to any other "skills" games in other sports. Plus, the games themselves are fun to watch. Yes, they're just pick up games with no real competition, but it's usually all about showboating for these guys.

The other ones I don't care for much of the weekend, I only enjoy the homerun derby and the skills shooting for hockey.

I don't mind props. But there should be a limit of one per player. And there should be one less dunk attempts as well. These players have to come up with like 6 dunks if they get to the finals. It's too much, which leads to some lack luster dunks in beetween the better ones. Can't have 5-6 great dunks after 30yrs of dunk contests.

XiaominWu 07-13-2011 08:57 PM

Baseball's game actually matters, so they actually play the game to win.... unlike the others. The NHL and NBA games are such a joke that they are pretty much unwatchable. I'm pretty sure nobody watches the Pro Bowl so it's hard to find opinions on it.

bjjs 07-15-2011 10:08 AM

I've been watching a bunch of the classic all-star games they've been airing on Raps TV, from back in the pre-magic/bird era and during that era.

They were actually really good games with everybody playing to win. We only see that once a decade nowadays.
