Penn accepts St. Pierre's challenge

B.J. Penn accepts Georges St. Pierre's challenge for third meeting - MMA - Yahoo! Sports

After filing a formal request with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to investigate the actions of UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre's corner in their UFC 94 main-event bout, UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn has posted an informal request to settle any remaining questions between the two fighters inside the cage.

The message accepting a potential third bout between the two was posted by Penn on BJPenn.com.

Penn's camp has contended adamantly since Saturday's result that St. Pierre's corner applied a greasing agent to the welterweight champion that gave the Canadian an unfair advantage on the ground.

The full message was posted late Thursday night and is posted unedited below.

For the past several days I have been reading statements made by St. Pierre and Greg Jackson about our fight on January 31. St. Pierre claims that he is "not a cheater" and that he and Greg Jackson will have "no problem with a rematch in the summer of 2009." To the untrained eye the grease might not look like much, but every grappler knows the effect that it has. Being able to apply your submissions and sweeps or just being able to hold on to your opponent to defend yourself from being hit is absolutely critical! There is a reason why you are not allowed to put grease anywhere on your body except for the area around your eyes. Because of the grease applied to St.Pierre's Body the Nevada State Athletic Commissionâs executive director, Keith Kizer has stated that the Penn-St. Pierre fight "definitely wasnât fair." I hereby accept George St. Pierre and Greg Jackson's challenge for a fight in the summer 2009. Lets call Dana now and set it up.

If they fight again, Penn is just going to get his ass handed to him for the second time

Superjudge 02-08-2009 11:57 AM

ridiculous

the_ raps_analyst 02-08-2009 12:26 PM

why is penn challenging st pierre again, he cant fight out of his weight class. He is way tooo weak for st piere.

Superjudge 02-08-2009 12:33 PM

it's a lose lose for St. Pierre.

but wtf, I guess he has to accept.

Now Penn has an idea of where the bar is, he see's how strong GSP is now, and has had a chance to try, and fail, and learn from his mistakes. It's actually pretty unfair for GSP to have to even consider it. He was prepared, Penn wasn't.

So now Penn will work out like crazy, get in much better shape, andhave a better showing, and if the fight is closer, everyone will paint GSP as a cheater and blame the proper result on cheating, when he was clearly more prepared and Penn was sadly out of shape. Penn is in a very favourable position, which is what he likes, he likes it easy. GSP must now go to another level altogether so he can thoroughly beat this guy down, again.

Here's omething that irks me. Thats the contention that a tiny dab of vasoline on a guys back, TINY, could chanmge the fight, but that there is no way any of the vasoline these guys have smushed all over thier eyes could ever find it's way on to the fighters backs during the fight. Thnk about how ridiculous that is. It's a fucking joke actually. One jab to the eye you have vasoline on your glove, first clinch, th eEXACT same small dab is now on your opponents back.

In all the fights where people complain about vasoline, its the loser that whines, oddly, when they win they don't say a word.

George wont like this. He will fight with anger and kill Penn.

I have lost a lot of respect for Penn these last two weeks and none because he lost the fight.

PS. The link has changed...

Hahahahaha.... I look forward to GSP beating down Penn even WORSE next time out and all but ending his rep and career.

Can't wait! :dancing:

STOP GREASIN YOSELF UP GEORGES!!!!

Superjudge 02-08-2009 06:07 PM

oh please.

What a ridiculous complaint.

highonpsi 02-08-2009 06:11 PM

Penn is a bitch.

Now a possible Silva/GSP fight is going to be further delayed.

Sauce 02-08-2009 09:48 PM

This fight wont happen unless Penn loses or gives up his LW belt, and EARNS a shot against GSP by beating some of the top Welterweights. Guaranteed.

Penn is gonna be defensing his LW belt against Florian soon. And GSP will be defending his WW against Alves most likely at UFC100 this July.

Ugo Ferst 02-09-2009 01:32 AM

im not big on the complaint, but fact is, it's against the rules, it was seen by athletic commission officials. Cheating is still cheating even if you dont mean to do it or even if you could beat the guy down without it. George isnt denying it, and he has to take the rematch. I dont see how letting somebody get away with cheating could be a good thing, even if he would win anyways.

A buddy of mine actually spoke to Firaz, GSP's trainer this weekend and told him they're very weary of putting him up against Anderson Silva right now. They really respect his game...Good thing they're being smart about what kind of risks they take with Georges' career.

Ugo Ferst 02-09-2009 03:26 AM

Yea, George should save his energy and let BJ fight Silva, then Rashad and then obv go and KO Fedor as he is the only fighter with a real shot at him!! (sorry bro, still one of my all time fav online comments!! :P)

Do with it what you want.

I still stand firm that a BJ that goes through the necessary training camp that a fighter of the caliber must will hold his own with Fedor. Fedor is a completely different style then GSP [who specifically gives BJ alot of problems] I still see him as a top P4P in the world.

Ugo Ferst 02-09-2009 03:44 AM

lol im sorry bro, u still believe that?? You seriously think any natural LW in the world can gain 75 pounds and be competitive at an elite level? lol its really funny bro, you should train some MMA and get a better understanding of what that kind of weight difference really means. For example ive taken Muay Thai and BJJ for about 7 years now, im pretty skilled and ive had a few amatuer matches and alot of fucking around in the gym matches. Im much more skilled technically then my friend who is just a flat out Greco roman wrestler. But he is a legit 265 and im 165-170, besides getting a lucky flash KO i really dont see a way i could beat him, the weight and strength and athletism make up for lesser skill. That's what a guy like Lesnar has going for him (BTW Lesnar would beatdown BJ aswell and his career would be over). Imagine my friend was actually very skilled like Fedor, a Sambo champion, a wrestling freak and great at subs.

Honestly, im glad to see alot of fans of MMA and the sport growing, but too many make ridiculous statements like they are superheroes. BJJ couldnt come close to beating any top 10 HW in the world, gaining weight, or stayiung at hius own, he will either get smashed because he would be too slow at 225 or smashed because his reach would be awful, he power which is great at his level would be much below average for a HW.

He very well may be a top p4p, but that doesnt mean he can literally move up and beat every top p4p. Fedor would crush all the lighter fighters, including GSP and Silva, there's a reason they have weight classes, hell, BJ couldnt even beat Machida in an openweight Pride fight, and you have him challenging Fedor.

Anyways, i wont bring it up again, iu was kidding with ya, and i hope you dont take this as a personal attack, i just disagree very strongly to the point of not even believing you believe what you are saying.

logicz 02-09-2009 10:22 AM

will bj penn ever accept defeat?..he just doesnt give up ... very hardheaded, won't accept that GSP is just a way better fighter IMO.

I agree 100%.

I'd still put Fedor as a heavy favourite against most of the good LHWs out there.... he's THAT devestating.

Brock is the best example that you can see right now of what superior size (combined with good athleticism) can do for a fighter. If he was about 40 lbs. lighter I seriously doubt that he'd have beaten Couture.

Penn is a great, great Lightweight fighter. He should stay there.

Superjudge 02-09-2009 05:43 PM

Penn, if he was 40 pounds heavier, might have a chance against fedor.

but he is not.

he has no hope. ever.

10gizzle 02-09-2009 05:57 PM

Well, depends how you look at it.

Due to the fact that he has never really lost, Fedor has to be put as a #1 P4P. Arguments can be made over who can beat him. Machida, Anderson and GSP are 3 guys that one could make an argument for. They all have they ability to beat Fedor without paying too much mind to the obvious size difference. I just feel that a TRAINED BJ fighting at 165 could beat almost anyone in the world...whether I believe that now is irrelevant because Penn has show that he doesnt train hard enough for his fights. He doesn't have a real coach or trainer, he does it himself. He has no one to push him and no one to be scared of. GSP on the other hand puts his utmost faith in his trainers and he trusts that they will police and discipline him at all times. BJ just doesn't have that...George steps into Tristar and literally bows and his trainers feet out of respect and reverence...

If anybody with a decent ground game came to Fedor with Freddy Roach [who says BJ is the best boxer in the game] as their boxing coach they'd stand a chance. If Arlovski never went for that ******ed flying knee we might have had a new WAMMA champion.
