![]() Since this tournament will surely get a lot of discussion, here's a thread devoted to hockey at the Olympics. This is sure to be an intense competition with a few countries in the mix for the gold medal.... and i'm sure we'll see some upsets as well. I'm picking Canada, Russia, Czechs to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Although i think Russia could win it all. |

Russia looks really good.
I'm thinking that unless they find they really don't stack up on the Blueline, the Russians will take it. They are too strong, too fast up front. That said, there is concern that they are thin in the back so we'll see. Canada is Canada. All in all, they can put two teams in this tourney, and probably three that would place top 6. It will come down to putting the puck in the net and handling the pressure. We tend to place a hell of a lot of weight on these guys. |

I'm picking Russia and Canada to be in the finals. There were a lot of holes in Torino (notably scoring), so it'll be interesting to see if they can correct the mistakes of 4 years ago. The Russians are crazy though. Their D isn't as good, but their goaltending is better. I'm going with the Russians to win gold (and perhaps in OT)

I wish there was a site that made it easy to look at all the rosters of the teams in the tourny. I've been trying to look this up and can't seem to find much. If anyone knows or can find this info, please post here.
I'm most curious to see the rosters of the lesser, but still strong teams. i.e., Czechs, Slovaks, Finland, U.S.A., etc. |

I'm sure Stamkos will make the 2014 Canada team, that is, provided NHL players are allowed to play in 2014 in Sochi. And Stamkos only made this incredible run after December 30.

The US team is nothing to scoff at. Miller may be the best goalie in the tournament.
They're more than capable of pulling off an upset or two. Looking at some of the Slovakian players, that team is pretty stacked too. I fucking hate the official Olympic website btw. They don't even show the most basic group standings or who's in which group. Anyone know of a better site to track olympic hockey? |

I don't know about Slovakia. The loss of Gaborik will hurt. It's all about Halak. If he can play as good in the regular season, the Slovaks can definitely put a scare into a lot of teams. Check ESPN's coverage. Not bad. |

Then maybe i'm hyping them up too much. There's still Chara, Hossa, Demitra (although he's not what he once was), Meszaros, Handsus, and of course Halak. and thanks for the Espn recommendation. It's way better. |
