I love this Tournament.

It's a real 7 horse race!

alright so we got USA and Finland and Canada / Slovakia.

Because i am smart i kind of predicted that Slovakia would get this far (see my claim early on in this thread). Personally i think the Americans and the Fins are pretty much on equal terms. That one could really go 50/50. I'll give the nod to Canada to get past Slovaks rather easily. The only way they don't is if they let down their guard and come in over-confident.

Still it looks like the gold medal match was played last night.

I think Halak is a pretty good goalie. It might be hard to get it past him in the start

usa/finland will be a good game...finland is gonna grind it out and i think they might surprise some people. the swiss were close of tying the US game before the empty netter.

its gonna be interesting to see how halak will handle canada. no doubt they NEED him to be amazing. chara is gonna get a ton of minutes. canada should win rather easily tho

finals prediction: canada vs finland.

canada for gold.

Although this certainly doesn't apply to most of the other sports and athletes in the Olympics, 'winning' bronze in the case of hockey would be a failure for Canada. Same for silver with this team, IMO.

It's like do you think the US basketball team would have been happy winning any medal other than gold?

Yea I know I was just saying. Atleast it won't be as dissapointing as winning 7th in Torino xD

I would obviously want gold but hey they aren't handing out medals here you gotta earn it. I hope Canada does win gold but if they wdon't we have a chance to win another medal too

It's funny, the women just beat the U.S for the Gold Medal and nobody here is talking about it. Yet the mens team plays a qualifier and there's a full thread on it. Obviously there's more interest and more competition in the men's games, but it's Canada and it's Hockey, no?

Anyway, nice to see the women win Gold again.

I'll always remember the game 8 years ago where Canada beat the world champion US to win Gold. The americans were undefeated against Canada all year, and the officiating was incredibly one-sided in favor of the US, the game actually seemed fixed, yet Canada scored a short handed goal to start off and never looked back winning one of the best hockey games I've ever seen.

Since that game 8 years ago they've always been on top.

i have the same memory of that game. It was cool to watch. However, the complete one-sidedeness of women's hockey is starting to wear thin. It's just as bad now as when they first introduced the sport... and correct or not, the IOC isn't happy about it. Apparently they're going to consider taking it away from the games - not that i would go that far.

The worse things to watch are cross country & Curling. The best things to watch for me is skiing, skating.

Finland has vowed to win Gold in 2014 and is going to support the hockey program big time.... will be interesting to see them develop.

And I expect China will continue to improve until they are a force in this sport, like they have become in so many others.
