you do realize that a few years back professionals werent allowed to play in the olympics, right?
so basically it was canadian amateurs (university/college/oversea players) playing against european league players.

Hubby says that the Swiss goalie is awesome.

This is all that I am going to contribute to the conversation.

Ask San Jose how good he is. Hiller stole the series for the Ducks in the opening round of last year's playoffs.

No, the reason why Giggy is in a Leafs uniform is because he earns 6 mil a year.

Hiller got a new contract and is better so they didn't want to pay $6 mil for a backup
but if he was bad Giggy would still be there

Well, North American professionals weren't allowed. Like you said, you'd have Canadian College players going up against European Superleague Players at a time where NHL-quality Europeans weren't playing in the NHL.

The fact we still managed to compete is incredible.

Guy, it was a pure salary dump. Giguere wasn't playing that horribly and isn't a horrible goaltender. If Giguere made 2-3 mil a season instead of 6-7, he might still be a Duck. I wouldn't say Hiller's better at all. How many finals has Hiller lead the Ducks to? How many has Giguere?

crazy win by Slovakia. Just when i was starting to write them off after the loss the Czechs.
I am LOVING the competitiveness of this tournament. It's fucking awesome to watch.

IMO, nothing is worse than the women's hockey competition. It's not a knock on the quality of the games, but when there is one team that is soooo much better than the rest of the field, the games are completely pointless to watch.

I can't wait once elimination games start. That is going to be some incredible hockey.

A long, long time. But just like the players on the Canadian team, they play on various club teams. Shouldn't be an excuse though. How many big hits did I see Canada throw yesterday? Hardly any. How many times did I see the Canadians try to be cute with the puck? Enough than I care to remember. The Swiss play a smart game and that's in result due to their head coach. If the Canadians played the same game the Swiss did, they would have won in regulation and probably by 2 or more goals.

The fun part of that Slovakia-Russian game was watching the physical battle between Zdeno Chara and Alex Ovechkin.

Wow. Okay so obviously other countries weren't sending many players to the NHL. They were playing in teams in their country. However most of Canada's top players were in the NHL. Obvioulsy the barely won any gold, it was almost impossible for them to win any.

Canada didn't play too well against Switzerland but to be at the game in person, lowerbowl and center ice was sick! Especially a game that went all the way into shootouts.
