When these numbers came out this summer, i heard a debate on the Fan and a so called NHL expert was on and said that Hockey Night in Canada's viewer ship is down considerably, used to be 1 out of every 18 people watched it, and now it's 1 out of every 26 on average.

Some have said that the interest has dropped because Hockey is too expensive to play and that's why interest is down. When i was a kid i played hockey everyday (didn't cost a penny)and watched every game i could on TV. I also played in a league, but i don't buy that argument. It doesn't cost much to play pickup hockey or watch it on tv.

You're right about one thing for sure, another team in S. Ontario would be great for hockey fans. But i doubt it'll happen anytime soon, because the league seems against it at least as a re-locate.
I guess stats are stats..... but I can tell you that participation in the league my kids play in has never been higher. They have had to add extra teams the last two seasons to deal with the growing enrollment.

Ugh..... rough night for Beauchemin/Schenn.

Stalberg is fuckin' great. I can see him being a star in this league.

Cool, all i know is that i've seen alot of changes in the last 4-5yrs. Alot of people i know have lost interest and kids in my family play other sports other then Hockey. Hockey overall in this country is still the number one sport and will be for many years to come. But i think the numbers will continue to go down, at least in Toronto with the ever growing populatioon of imigrants coming here from countries who don't know what a puck is.At the same time the rest of the country really has no other professional sports teams to cheer for other then the CFL.

Price looked fantastic.

He's one reason I'm excited for my Habs. Losing Markov for any time though will be huge.

Markov is apparently out for 3 to 4 months. Sucks for the Habs.

*sigh*

At least we beat the Leafs.... all is right with the world for a day.

I hope to God that Price regains his form this season.

Yup Doc. That's a HUGE loss for us.

Gorges is ready for his role. Offensivley maybe, but not defensively. Problem is, defencemen are hard to find right now. Maybe Subban gets the call but that's asking a ton from the kid.

TO, I don't know if you got to watch Price when he was with Hamilton, but when I saw him play, I knew right there he was a legit player who earned being the no. 5 selection.

He's a solid, solid goalie. Last year sucked because his confidence was shot and Carbonneau mismanaged him.

I guarantee he regains his form. The problem is the defencemen now.

Habs seem to be a lot like the leafs..... a team with not much promise for this season. I expect they'll be playing meaningful games in April as they battle for the 8 seed.

It's like we have everything backwards. I'd argue our top six line is superior to the leafs but the leafs defencemen are superior to ours.

We should mould the two teams together. Size and grittiness at the back, speed and skill at the front.
