You know these games don't count, right? And Crosby, Malkin and Gonchar didn't even play.

I liked the amount of very nice, hard, CLEAN hits the Leafs tossed out.

Very rough team to play against.

Kadri's got some moves. I think even if Fleury was between the pipes, he might not have stopped that. But Pitt's big guns took the night off.

That's what Burke wants - Truculence. They're living up to their billing so far to date.

Bozak, Stalberg and Hanson should be the second line - no ifs ands or buts.

Nope.

Nazem plays 9 game sthen back to Junior.

Hanson, Stalberg, and Bozak start for the Marlies.

Toronto has a lot of contract issues that will make it better for the young guys to stay in the AHL for now until they are ready to truly dominate.

I like the patience actually, for once. Let these season a bit more against the AHL gang. It's a perfect place for highn value rookies to learn the smaller details of the game against some bigger and faster opponents.

Think of it this way, now you can go see these kids play for $20.

Sorry bud, Kadri ain't Domi.

Brodeur Pokes, a goal scorer like Kadri goes 5 hole in a blink.

Some kids are born to light the lamp.

Which is the best NHL realignment plan?
LINK: ESPN.com asks: Which is the best realignment plan for the NHL? - ESPN

this is what I think it should be

out: Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning
In: Q City, Ontario, Portland, Seattle

Calder Conference
Smythe Division: Toronto, Montreal, Q City, Ottawa, Boston, Ontario, Buffalo
Bowman Division: NYR, Islanders, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, Carolina, Tampa

Campbell Conference
"Chuck" Norris Division: Minnesota, Dallas, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Columbus, Colorado
Patrick Division: LA, Anahiem, SJ, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland

If Canada doesn't get another team, then according to that list provided via ESPN my other favourite would be to see the Hartford Whalers back in the league again. That would be an instant classic.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Seattle with a team too. After being there last month, its now my new favourite city to visit.

seems nice, however if they DO do that, you'd have to keep the current playoff system, if they went balc to the old, canadian teams would have to canibalize each other to get to the cup.

Why remove Tampa and keep Atlanta? I can see Seattle perhaps supporting a team, but not Portland. ANd there';s no way Bettman vacates the South Florida market in favour of Quebec City. The Panthers suffer the same fate as the Heat - if they're not winning, people don't show up. But there's enough Snowbirds in Florida to keep that franchise (Miami) going.

And why remove the "Adams" division in favour of Bowman?

you're very serious
Atlanta is supposed to be Tampa, my mistake
Panthers suffer from their arena being for away from downtown

I don't the argument of population leading to TV revenue because the Panthers have 0.15 local rating per game and the Sabers have 8.87 average
Miami might have 5 times the population but Buffalo has 40 times the local TV rating

if you don't like Portland I suggest Houston

why remove the "Adams" division in favour of Bowman?
because I did and he's an important figure in hockey if you haven't noticed, just trying to be different

I don't buy the "Panthers suffer from their areans being away from downtown". If they make the playoffs this year, they'll sell tickets. It isn't a traditional hockey market, but there's no way the NHL removes them. They'll remove Nashville before Miami.

Houston is a better market than Portland, creates a natural rivalry with Dallas, but an even better market than Houston is Kansas City. The arena is built, there's no other game in town once the Chiefs are finished their season.

As for your "trying to be different" schtick, I don't know why you'd keep Smythe, Norris and Patrick, but remove Adams. If you're going to change one to "Bowman", you might as well change the rest of them. And the divisions are all changed around. Traditionalists/purists would call for your head.
All the Atlantic teams should be the Patrick. Montreal, Boston, Ottawa, Toronto, etc, should be the Adams. Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, etc should be the Norris and Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, etc should be the Smythe.

this is the same KC that had a pre season game recently that drew 10k fans
way to prove your worth
Houston has a new arena too and does well attendance wise

Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis is Norris
Smythe - Leafs connection
Lester Patrick

He donated a trophy to the Western Hockey League, the Lester Patrick Cup, to go to the playoff champions of that league, and the trophy now resides in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
hence the association with teams in the west

just trying look at it from a fresh perspective
you can still keep the classic divisions, I didn't change anything. this is why we talk

BREAKING NEWS: Wayne's stepping down in Phoenix.

Quote:
Wayne Gretzky announced today that he is stepping down as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations of the Phoenix Coyotes Hockey Club, effective immediately. “This was a difficult decision that I’ve thought long and hard about,” said Gretzky. “We all hoped there would be a resolution earlier this month to the Coyotes ownership situation, but the decision is taking longer than expected. Since both remaining bidders have made it clear that I don’t fit into their future plans, I approached General Manger Don Maloney and suggested he begin looking for someone to replace me as coach. Don has worked hard and explored many options. I think he has made an excellent choice, and so now it’s time for me to step aside.

“The Coyotes scouting staff has put together a great group of young and talented players who are going to improve tremendously over the next few years,” continued Gretzky. “I’m proud of the team we’ve assembled, the organization with which I’ve been associated and the thousands of dedicated fans who have never wavered in their support of this young team. I’m confident that the best is yet to come for hockey in Phoenix.

“I want to thank every staff member of the Phoenix Coyotes, past and present. It was a real pleasure to work with each and every one of you. I’ve always said that Phoenix is a great sports city and deserves nothing but the best. I still believe that. As a young boy, I learned to play hockey in Southern Ontario, and I know what great fans they have there. It’s my hope they too will have an NHL franchise in the not too distant future.

“I often said it was the greatest honor and privilege I could imagine to be able to play in the National Hockey League. I feel the same way about being an NHL coach. I’ve loved the four years I spent coaching the Coyotes. Not a day went by when I took it for granted, and I will miss the competition of the NHL dearly. It was an honor to hold the position, and I will always consider myself especially fortunate to have had this opportunity.”

It drew 10K fans because it was a pre-season game. Most pre-season games don't sell out. Hell, even Buffalo didn't draw well last night - 11K - and half of that crowd were Leafs supporters from St.Kitts/Niagara/Hamilton. With the Rockets being #1 in the winter months, Houston would not draw as well as Kansas City would.

I understand the connection with Smythe and the Leafs connection, but the NHL isn't going to change the name of the division just because of the Leafs. Adams was the original owner of the Boston Bruins and is linked with teams like Ottawa, Montreal, and Buffalo as well because of the division name.

I know who Lester B Patrick is as well, but you switching around the division names isn't going to help attendence. If anything, you'll piss off the purists.

The NHL is doing its part by instilling the salary cap and trying to create parity, but the only thing that cures the game is stopping expansion and having teams in non-traditional hockey markets to improve their front office and to start winning. Winning cures everything.
