would you give up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick?
seeing as the Leafs will never get a top pick and the scouts aren't known for drafting great players, its okay if it happens

Today is a wonderful day. Heatley has been dealt to San Jose for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a second round pick.

Source - Sens deal Heatley to Sharks for Michalek, Cheechoo, 2nd Rd pick

Cheechoo's declining like crazy, obviously added because of salery, Michalek, I don't know much about but from what I read he seems like a pretty good scorer, and a 2nd round pick could turn into a great player. Heatley with SJ should be deadly with Thornton, good deal for both teams considering the situation.

Cheechoo just needs a change of scenery. He'll be money on a line with either Spezza or Alfredsson setting him up.

I like Michalek. 6'3", 225 - a true powerforward. He's gonna blow it up in Ottawa.

San Jose are always champs of the regular season and choke in the playoffs. This season won't be any different.

As a Leafs fan, why would you want that? I'd rather keep the cap space next year for Kovalchuk..and keep the draft selections. The Leafs aren't making the playoffs this year. They have way too much grit and not enough skill. If it were a trade by where the Leafs could jettison some of their dead weight in contracts, then it wouldn't be bad. Point being, Kessel isn't one of those guys who's gonna turn around the team, and isn't worth 3 high draft selections.

Cheechoo's been struggling with injuries over the last couple seasons. I read an article yesterday and even Doug Wilson really didn't want to part with Cheechoo because by all accounts this summer has been the first time in almost 3 years that Jonathan is 100% healthy and ready to prove the critics wrong. He's motivated, just got married this summer and a change of scenery couldn't of come at a better time for him. Things are looking good and having someone like Spezza to set you up might be what he needs to find his scoring touch once again.

Michalek is still young and under contract for another 4 years at a reasonable price. He'll break out soon and hopefully it will be this year.

Although injured last season, Heatley underachieved big time too. So, sure he's a great player but I don't think he'll be missed here in Ottawa some may think he will be. We lost our top goal scorer but we gained a ton of offensive depth this summer with Kovalev, Cheechoo and Michalek. I'm liking that because now we'll have 2 solid scoring lines and decent 3rd and 4th lines.

BTW, a little insider info for the "personal reasons" that Heatley wanted out of Ottawa. Apparently its not hockey related at all, but that a large chunk of the team have shunned him because they don't trust him with their wives/girlfriends. Last season when he was injured apart of his "rehab" was banging two of the Sens girlfriends/wives. Don't know which ones, but the source is extremely legit. (coming from an actual ex-Ottawa Senator that I know)

Shit, I forgot the Sens signed Kovi in the offseason. That's a lot of firepower. Their top 6 is extremely skilled.

If LeClaire can stay healthy this year, Ottawa's gonna be a real legit contender.

he was a lockeroom cancer, so good ridence and great trade by the Sens...
the only prob is that now that he has Thornton serving him all day; heatley will be putting in 50+ goals and will look like a god in San Jose. and the sens will be critisized for letting go of such a great hockey player.

I think I better email my buddy Huskins who just re-signed in SJ to give him the head's up to keep his fianceť close by and nowhere near Heatley.

Which goalie? Emery?

I'm pretty sure Redden was let go because he's useless and grossly overpaid.

Emery, Reddon, Heatly,

dudes were pretty wrapped up in some serious shit.... GM had to pull some favors to keep some legal stuff out of the press and hush hushed.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug!

No shit .... my bro walked in on Emery and Comrie in the staff washroom snorting away at the bar he used to work at one night here in Ottawa. Apparently Emery loves his coke.

I'll agree with what your saying about kessel but if Brian Burke can get the right deal done, you do it asap, I don't think the leafs should give away the farm for kessel but I think burke's got something up his shelve...and let's be honest, ATL will throw anything and everything at kovalchuk to keep him there. A line of kessel, kadri + filler would be fun to watch for years to come.
