Remarks by Maple Leafs' head coach Ron Wilson on a Toronto radio station could prove to be very costly.

The Globe and Mail is reporting that the Maple Leafs are under investigation by the NHL due to Wilson's comments on the club's interest in Daniel and Henrik Sedin prior to July 1st, the first day that unrestricted free-agents could test the market.

On Tuesday June 31st, Wilson told Toronto radio station The Fan 590 that:

"You're hearing right now, and this sounds very contradictory but, there's a real possibility, I would think, that we would be going after the Sedins. Let's just speculate there."

Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke confirmed that the league was investigating the remarks.

"The league has indicated that they are looking into it, so we will have no public commentary at this time," Burke told the Globe and Mail Monday night.

While NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly did not confirm that the league was investigating tampering allegations against the Maple Leafs, he did say that the Vancouver Canucks have not filed a complaint with the league.

"We wouldn't normally comment on whether or not we were investigating a club for a potential tampering violation," Daly told the Globe and Mail.

"No, the Canucks have not filed tampering charges."

The Sedin brothers ended up resigning with the Canucks with identical five year contracts worth $6.1 million per season.

Looks like Gustavsson finally made a decision.

Quote:
A Swedish source told Sportsnet the long awaited decision by Jonas Gustavsson is over as he's decided to start his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

An announcement is expected as early as today as "The Monster" signed off on a 1-year, $900,000 to start the 09-10 season backing up Vesa Toskola.

Yup...trade kabs for a top 6 forward + draft pick, sign Richard wallin ( gustavsson's former captain)... Add tanguay/Bertuzzi (not sure if they can with the cap) and the leafs are good to go

What is wrong with NHL GM's?? Do none of them believe in short term contracts?

The Philidelphia Flyers have just given a 35yr old Chris Pronger a 7yr/35Mil extension? This player has been on the decline already.

Brian Burke keeps on impressing:

Quote:
Per Sportsnet, Farjestads BK forward Rickard Wallin has agreed to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Terms of the deal are forthcoming, although sources tell MLHS that it is believed to be a one year deal at a low base salary, with performance bonuses attached.
Captain of Gustavsson's former team, let's hope he can help out the team this season

Impressing to the tune of picking up a bunch of 3rd liners. Wallin is basically the European version of Dominic Moore.

Brian Burke has not impressed me so far. He's a goon lover, although his defence has improved, i'll give him that. And aquiring May last season was a head scratcher to say the least.

But a couple of goons+ a goalie that's never played an NHL game.....ehhhhh

If he gets a top-6 forward and is able to move Blake in the process, I'll be impressed.

Sources tell MLHS that Brian Burke has hired the former Vancouver captain and recently retired Markus Naslund as a European scout. After drafting 100% North American at the 2009 draft (on purpose by Burke’s own admission), just how much they’ll use him is another question. It should be said that as much as Burke molds a roster high in North American content, He seems to have a definite predilection for Swedes. If true, the Leafs add a reputable name to the scouting staff here that was idolized by many Swedish youngsters growing up.
if he can do anything nieundyk (sp?) did, I'll be happy... He'll help a lot with european scouting

Leafs have the worst scouting in the league. He should be an upgrade.

Rangers walked away from Zherdev..... I hope Burke takes a hard look at him... that's the kind of skill player the Leafs are sorely missing.

He's a skilled player, so unless he also throws his fists or is a bit of a goon....forget it.

There is speculation the leafs are offering zherdev a 2 year contract, he would easily be the top line talent on the team and the superstar this team needs. A top line of zherdev, grabs and kulemin would be pretty sick.

Zherdev is the laziest fuck of life. Have fun with him, Leafs fans. He has all the talent in the world, but doesn't play every shift..or game for that matter.
