I think Burke got exactly what he expected for Kubina. Kubina is decent, but grossly overpaid at this point in his career. Still a good move by the Leafs.

In this cap day age in the NHL, no one's gonna want to pay 5 mil a season for Kubina.
IMO, Burke did a fantastic job. This is going to be a team you can really rally around. They're gonna bring their hard hats to work every night.

Gotta feel bad for the Oilers. They tried to make a big splash and Heatley nixes it. On top of that I thought the Sens were getting a nice package back.

Don't remind me CG ... I was loving that proposed deal too. Cogliano, Penner and Smid.

The only really puck moving defenseman they have outside of Kaberle is Ian White and he's isn't anything to brag about.

I think alot depends on if Thomas stays or who they get for him in return if dealt.
I'm pretty sure the leafs won't keep Kaberle, there are a lot of rumours that the Kaberle-Kessel trade might still be in the works and it's believed that Burke is still targetting Beauchemin, another gritty defender so with him the team will have 8 - 10 defenders lol so I'm pretty sure Kaberle will not be a Leaf at the beginning of the season, a package deal might be in the works. Also, it's believed the Leafs might sign Manny Malholtra and he'd be a great 3rd line forward who'd bring a lot to the table.

...btw, his name is Tomas

Malholtra is redundant on the Leafs. They have a ton of 3rd and 4th line players.

true but imo he's the definition of a Burke player lol...big dude, has a good defensive game and he's a leader

RUMOR: According to a source the Toronto Maple Leafs have offered a contract to UFA F Alex Tanguay worth around 15 million over 4 to 5 years. I’m waiting to get confirmation on this but I don’t expect to hear anything till at least 10 am tomorrow.

3 mil a year for 5 years is awesome! doubt that happens though
15 mill over 4 to 5 years would be a sick deal to get a playmaker like Tanguay...get er done Burke

that would be great
Leafs still need cap space for next year so they can sign Nash
can they trade for him? probably highly unlikely b/c I don't know if the Leafs have good pieces to offer
I only suggest it b/c the Jackets won't want to lose him for nothing, if he doesn't sign an extention

Yeah, but so is Jamal Mayers, so is Brad May, so is Tyler Bozak (who they just signed) so is Matt Stajan, Christian Hanson could be categorized as one. They just signed Colton Orr for the 4th line..they just got Colin Stuart in that deal for Kubina. Looks like Burke is accumulating 3rd and 4th line players.

15 million for 4 years is a good deal for Tanguay as a top-6 forward. You just have to hope he stays healthy.

Mango, the difference is that Burke is reloading with 3-4 liners that can play with grit and tenacity. Toronto has lacked that, and not that I disliked the guys there, they just were not doing it.

Stajan is out of place now, unless he's gonna be a 4th line center.

We'll see how things go.

Their problem was never with their 3rd or 4th lines. Their problem is putting the pucks in the net. They have enough in terms of grit and tenacity. Just spending extra money would be a waste.

Stajan is an excellent skater and penalty killer, plus he has offensive upside. Moving him would be a mistake.

10th over in league scoring. Last in defence.

They got handled on the forecheck brotherman!!!!

Stajan is a guy that goes into a corner, and rarely comes out with the puck.

It's a job in progress I guess.

Also Nash signed an 8 year deal worth 62.4 mill with the Blue Jackets.

That's one of the dumbest things you've ever written, bro..... Stajan's absolute best skill is his ability to win one-on-one battles for the puck on the boards. There is nothing else he does that comes close.

i dunno if any of u heard but there's speculation that there will be a 3 way trade between the Sharks, Leafs, and Hawks which might go down tomorrow...no players have been named by most sources but on one site (HockeyProspectus), the players included are:

Quote:
Speculation, SJS-CHI-TOR deal, SJS: J.Blake, Huet, 2010 1st Round Pick, CHI: Marleau, Kaberle, Nabokov, TOR: Versteeg, B. Campbell, Cheechoo
I dunno about this trade...Versteeg is a promising forward, B. Campbell's contract is unbelievable and Cheechoo is a player on the decline after a great year a while back and it seems like the Hawks will be a legitimate threat next year with all they are receiving lol...

If things work out the way Brian Burke hopes, soon he can start referring to a team in Sweden as the Maple Leafs unofficial farm club. Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League is the home of much recruited goaltender Jonas Gustavsson, a player the Leafs general manager is hotly chasing. But it doesn't end with the kid they call the Monster, as the Leafs also are in pursuit of the team's captain, center Rickard Wallin
