The NHL playoffs ARE like no other. If you read a lot of media, NHL hockey may not be the most popular, but it is widely regarded as the hardest sport to play, win, and they playoffs are pretty worshiped.

I remember Ray Lewis winning his first Superbowl, when he was asked about how hard it was to play a season then the playoffs to win, he chuckled and said, "have you ever watched NHL hockey, those guys pla 82 games, then another 30, there is no comparison"

Kinda sums it up.

Hockey is simply awesome. Fast-paced, rough, and exciting.

Basketball is awesome in its own right too, can't stand some of the softness though (flopping)

Jeff if you dont like hockey why do you come in here?

well here's what frustrates me...Casey brings in a 5 trillion pound

He and all the players talk all badass about pounding said

Then, from what I observed, go out and play a little basketball. Our stars play soft then whine at the refs like children, our Italian is afraid of contact, and our goon gets called a goon everytime he set a pick or pounds

JV, Amir, and goon are the only guys pounding (and Amir is not surprisingly, a puckhead)

Do you guys, do you JEFF honestly think that on an NHL team, 80% of the players would get caught dead not pounding

Trust me, Case never brought that rock, Grabovski did, he just told Casey he could use it as he knew those fancy lads would never even THINK to touch it.

First post since the Leafs lost, my heart still kind of hurts

Anyways, at least the Leafs are looking like the only competition Boston has gone through so far, haven't counted out the Pens yet but the Bruins vs the Blackhawks would be some unreal hockey to watch.

football begs to differ. and no i'm not talking about that rebranded garbage north america obsesses over (largely the states). i'm talking about the beautiful sport of football (where you actually use your foot for more than a couple plays a game). champions league, europa league (to a lesser extent), the world cup, eurocup. it's not even comparable. harder to play? HA. yeah we don't have players in football play at the top level simply because they're used as an "enforcer". football is about skill, individual skills, team tactics, passion, and so so much more. no sport even comes close to it, let alone fucking hockey, a sport which maybe 5 percent of the world can afford to play and learn, or even have the opportunity facility wise to do so.

seriously. jeff is right

Hockey isn't about skill, team tactics, and passion? Soccer players are pussys compared to hockey players.

All sports are hard to play in their own way. From a physicality and toughness standpoint, hockey is harder.

hahah. yeah just cause you're allowed to physically tackle someone doesn't make it a tougher sport. in soccer, a minimum of 8 players on the pitch run around for 90 full minutes, on a MASSIVE PITCH. hockey you get line changes every minute or two. and that's only if substitutes are used. players starting the game expect to play the 90 minutes. substitutions are used for tactical changes and/or injuries. soccer players are the fittest athletes in the world.

the tactics used in soccer are much more complex than those in hockey. i've played both at relatively high levels and dealt with both sets of tactics.

as for passion, are you seriously going to try and tell me hockey is more about passion than soccer? soccer being the most watched and played sport in the world?

bill shankly(one of the most successful managers (coaches) of all time): "some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed in that attitude. I can assure you it is much much more important than that."

it's absurd to even mention hockey and football in the same sentence in comparison of the best and most difficult sports in the world

LOL you played both at a high level? Bro stop faking the funk.

You have line changes in hockey because it's not possible to skate the whole game. You would know that if you played. Soccer is tougher 'cause you play the whole game? OK.

Hockey can't have passion because it's less watched. Wow. lol

You can believe soccer is tougher, or whatever, that's fine. Hockey shits on soccer though imo.

Pizza, we all know you never played hockey at a competitive level. There is no way in hell your overprotective mom let you lace up the skates.

at first, i was going to agree.... soccer doesn't compare.... but on second thought, it is demanding enough to get consideration.

however, i have never seen a soccer player run for 90 minutes. i see them run in a spurt, then i see them stand around or walk in order to rest. having played at a high level, you would also know the incredible amount of energy it takes to battle for a puck along the boards, in addition to just skating all out, starting and stopping... someone mentioned earlier that it is physically impossible to skate at full speed for more than about 45 seconds.

i know soccer players are in fantastic shape, but it is asinine and naive to suggest that they are in better shape than NHL players.

Rugby. Run harder than soccer, and full contact. Play keeps going if you get hurt.

One might even say it's similar to the interval exercise of, say, hockey.

So, cardiovascular wise, Hockey and Soccer might be similar. In terms of physical strength, hockey wins; it's not even close. Therefore...

Toughness meter

Hockey > Soccer

Rugby is easily the most dangerous sport I played in high school. People get stepped on. Thank god most of the guys playing in a bullshit high school leagues are just fake tough guys. The international players are beasts. Absolute monsters.

The funny thing is, at least in my case, the only bad injury I suffered playing sports during my teens was in an non-contact kinda pussy sport. I don't even want to say it.

Always remember to stretch, kids.
