very deep meaning next round. not really a BOLD prediction

Cup finals Blues/Caps. Still like the Kings as they were my preseason pick. East is shaky. Flyers are the best team but goaltending is an isssue. maybe they can get by outscoring opponents.

if jersey and ottawa win today the top 4 seeds are out

Boston Bruins fans are reeling after a stunning overtime loss in Game 7 Wednesday night, but others are reeling from the racist backlash that erupted over Twitter after the Washington Capitals' Joel Ward scored the winning goal.

Ward, a Canadian whose parents emigrated from Barbados, scored the game-winner over last year's Stanley Cup champions at 2:57 into overtime on a rebound from a shot by Mike Knuble, to make the final score 2-1 for Washington.

The TD Garden arena in Boston instantly fell into a shocked silence as fans' hopes of back-to-back Bruins appearances in the Stanley Cup final evaporated.

But the volume was just starting to build on Twitter, where incensed fans began launching personal attacks on Ward, not over his playing ability but over the colour of his skin.

"The fact that a n***** scored the winner goal makes this loss hurt a lot more," tweeted someone with the handle @tomtroy12.

Another wrote: "Stupid n***** go play basketball hockey is a white sport."

Those were just two relatively tame examples in a long list of racist posts that appeared on Twitter following the game.

Others defended Ward against the attacks. Capitals star Alexander Semin retweeted messages defending his teammate, such as this one from @JordanLerm: "Please don't think that most Boston fans are like that. We really aren't. You guys played well and congrats on moving on."

Another fan pointed out that Willie O'Ree, a Canadian who was the first black player in the NHL, started his career in Boston.

Blues were my choice since the start of the playoffs, hoping they don't have that tough of a time against Phoenix next round.

What do people think of Lou possibly playing in TO?

To me its all about whats the cost, and are they willing to absorb some bad contract... as they would obviously have to considering the cap hit and length of that contract. As far as him as a player alone, I'd love em for our goalie. Someone with experience for once please!! Question is how many years does he have left, 5 would be nice.

Rangers!

See you Ottawa. i was annoyed by what Don Cherry said after the game. "rangers should be embarrassed after that game." Uhhh why old man? Embarrassed for scoring more goals than the other team? Fact is Ottawa gave it their all (A for effort), but weren't good enough.

re: the boston tweets: That's crazy and sad that a few jackasses can take over and represent a city so poorly. And SJ please. You should take back that statement on account of it being straight up horseshit.

re: Luongo in TO. yes please. Especially if Burke can offload an unappealing deal. Get 'er done. I would think that other teams may have more enticing offers.

If Luongo doesn't like blame, he should not come to T.O. He'd be leaving a stacked team to come to one a mile out of the playoffs....with some Leaf fans expecting him to save them by himself.

He should go to Tampa for LeCavelier IMO.

Leafs aren't mile out of the playoffs or whatever. If the goaltending was servicable or good (good not great) then they would have been in the race until the end. Remember that for the majority of the season they were in a playoff position or on the cusp. Putting Luongo on that team puts them into a playoff position or very close to it.

The problem is i don't know if the Leafs have what it takes to get him and what's more, i don't even know if Burke wants to make that deal. I could see him still using Reimer and adding a cheaper older back-up (even though i would hate that plan and would way rather see someone like Luongo here).

As i said before, i'm not the biggest fan but will admit he is head and shoulders above anything we have right now...most important aspect of Luongo is that he could handle the pressure of playing in TO
My gut feeling is that Vancouver will have to take back a bad contract in order to deal him.....so

Komisarek, a prospect and a draft pick (i think we have 2 middle rounders this year ?)

Biggest obstacle ?...BB doesn't like front loaded deals...and that's exactly how Luongo's contract is structured

Luongo is a starting goaltender, and if he could improve a team, why would they want the Leafs' garbage back? Some other teams should be able to offer better than that.

It's probably not even about his salary. At a 5.3 mil cap hit, here are some under-performers who currently get more than that...

Ilya Bryzgalov $ 10,000,000
Vincent Lecavalier $ 10,000,000
Dany Heatley $ 8,000,000
Scott Gomez $ 7,500,000
James Wisniewski $ 7,000,000

Some team is going to have to give up value to get him.

Nobody's going to give real value for him... And yes, it's almost entirely about his contract, its completely horrible.

The leafs would be giving up value. They have a number of solid young prospects who will be regular contributors somewhere in the NHL in a short time. and the reason why Vancouver would want to do it is because Luongo's contract sucks. Dude, it's terrible. Nevermind the length which is a joke, but i keep hearing annual different numbers all over the place. It's a front loaded contract, but i've heard the next few years are closer to 7 mil. and another reason why Vancouver would make the deal is because he hasn't been very good for them. You're forgetting that Luongo isn't all that popular in van city because he's kind of sucked in important moments.

Trust me. Vancouver WANTS to make a move. And there aren't that many teams who would touch him. toronto just happens to be one of them.

Just to add one thing on to what you said because its pretty spot on.

There is absolutely no way any team at all touches Lou without Vancouver taking a bad contract back, Lou's is just too big to avoid that situation, given that Vancouver wants him gone asap, as much as they don't want to say it to the public like that.

looked around and found these numbers...looks about right

12 years, 64 million....not too many teams are going to even go near this...awful
i believe he'll be 45 years old at the end of this contract
Vancouver will have a hard time moving him and i can't see BB taking this on...wouldn't blame him if he passed or at least "lowballed" them
my gut says he'll go to Tampa
