Burke is not the best GM in the NHL. Good? Yes ... Overrated? Most certainly, but nowhere close to the best in my opinion. There are better ones but the most notable one in my opinion is Ken Holland in Detroit. That man is a freakin' amazing with what he's done with that franchise over the last last decade.

I don't know why everyone is over Burke's nuts - it's not like he's done a whole lot in Anaheim - most of those dudes were in place before Burke came in. Like Doc said, I'd go for someone with a TRUE proven track record, like a Kenny Holland - shit, they should have just given the keys to Scotty Bowman.

Reason # 45118 why Richard Peddie should be out of a job by now.

Bowman had a plan in place to instill Igor Larianov as coach - who I think would have been fantastic - and the guy (Bowman) knows a thing or two about winning.. but it goes to prove that Peddie/MLSE is more concerned about making a buck than winning.

Ken Holland = European talent, better scouting talent/drafting

Burke = N American talent, better with trades

Which would you rather have?

MCKENZIE: BURKE TO THE MAPLE LEAFS NOT A DONE DEAL...YET

Burke has in his possession a "term sheet" that outlines many of the terms and conditions that would be contained in the contract - the number of years (six); the salary (about $3 million), signing and performance bonuses - but has not yet seen a draft version of the contract itself. And Burke said there are still a few other items not contained in the "term sheet" that need to be clarified and settled before the contract can be drafted.

Burke said he didn't anticipate doing anything today that would further the process.

If whatever outstanding issues that remain are cleared up this week, the earliest the Leafs are expected to announce him as the new president and GM is on Saturday.

"It's certainly headed in the right direction," Burke told TSN, "but it's not it done yet. I anticipate it will get done but it's not done."

Burke said he would have to stop just short of saying there is an "agreement in principle" with the Leafs because there are still some outstanding issues that he must negotiate and sign off on with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president and CEO Richard Peddie.

Looks like Toronto has the two top GM's in the league because Burke is coming to TO

Ya lol sooner then i thought...this is the greatest news ever...burke will bring in a lot of Canadian grit to the team, make a few trades, get some veterans and just like colangelo transformed the raps over his first offseason with the team, burke will make the leafs a playoff team before this time next year ...or if he can do something by trade deadline...u nvr know ...sundin anyone?

Habs lead all six all-star spots

It appears as though the 57th NHL All-Star game in Montreal will resemble a home game for the Habs as Canadiens players currently lead all six starting Eastern Conference spots in fan balloting.

As of Tuesday, Habs players led the balloting for all six starting spots on the Eastern Conference team, with defenceman Andrei Markov topping all vote-getters at 362,100.

Should the numbers hold through the Jan. 2 end of balloting, the Canadiens would become the first team to have the entire starting lineup elected to an all-star game.
Fans can vote as often as they like online and Habs supporters are clearly pushing their players with the Jan. 25 contest in Montreal.

Mike Komisarek (325,076) is second among blue-liners to Markov, both well ahead of Boston's Zdeno Chara (147,287), while Alex Kovalev (324,898), Saku Koivu (322,008) and Alex Tanguay (318,482) are the top three forwards.

The trio comfortably leads superstars Sidney Crosby (237,213) and Evgeni Malkin (193,749), both of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Washington's Alex Ovechkin (147,895).

Goaltender Carey Price (352,602), meanwhile, has more than twice as many votes as Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury, who is second at 147,173.

I don't want to see a bunch of Canadiens in the All Star Game. The game is a joke anyway. Voting should be divided between coaches/writers/fans.

Speaking as a Montreal fan, that's a dumb play by O'Byrne and he deserved to be booed. And if you want to speak of classless, you should look at Leaf fans imo. Go to a game, or walk the streets of Toronto and you'll see what I mean.

Burke, Leafs come to agreement on six-year deal for GM job

Brian Burke is the new GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sources confirm to ESPN.com that a contract was finally agreed upon Thursday for six years, including the remainder of this season.

A news conference is expected Saturday in Toronto.

"I am really excited that Brian is able to get this straightened out, if it is true," Toronto coach Ron Wilson said to the Associated Press after Thursday's game.

Burke recently turned down a contract extension to remain general manager of the Ducks, citing the need to spend more time with his family and the strong state of the team he helped turn into a Stanley Cup champion as reasons for leaving.

Burke, 53, explained that he wants to spend more time with his six children and that 11 years of commuting coast to coast was enough for him.

Leafs win tonight...looks like all the players wanted to impress the boss which i think they did. However, the play of Kaberle still disappoints me but Toskala played his 2nd solid game and i was extremely impressed by the great saves he made

GO LEAFS GO...GO LEAFS GO

They better play their arses off or else you'll see guys traded. You're gonna see a LOT of movement after the Christmas trade freeze.

Other than Hagman and maybe Grabovski, all the euro players might want to pack they're bags.
