Exactly ... A couple years ago Van Ryn was somewhat decent, but he's absolutely garbage now. Don't be surprised if he's waived at some point this season. Nevertheless, good move by the Leafs.

Van Ryn is a servicable defenseman. He's not anywhere near as skilled offensively as McCabe, but he's more defensively responsible. He's also very injury prone. The key thing here is that he makes 2 million a season less and his contract expires sooner.

Good move by the Leafs. The key this year is total suckage and trying to acquire a better draft pick.

I was just reading in the Globe today that Bill Daly expects expansion into European markets within the next 10 years or so. This is one of the worst things the league could do right now. Seeing how weak they are domestically, it seems that the NHL is not learning from its mistakes in the 90s. Expansion into Canada should be one of their priorities (it won't be) because it would strengthen the overall league

wow. the leafs beat Detroit.

I watched maybe half of it, and to my shock the game was actually entertaining! The you leafs looked pretty good if i may say so myself. Hustling, pressuring the puck - no real dump and chase style. Even if they are going to lose a lot - at least this group is showing me more than the teams of the past.

Good on Wilson.

Lookin' strong so far .... definitely Canada's strongest team this season. If they don't go deep into the playoffs this year, then consider it a disappointment.

It's early and you never know if one of your key guys will go down with injury, but at this point i agree with that statement

Of course, but if they can remain healthy the Habs are certainly Canada's elite. Not even close.

Sens are going to flip-flop like no other this season. I like Gerber, but I don't have faith in either him or Auld. Goaltending will remain the Sens achilles heal.

What about the NHL looking into putting a second franchise in the Toronto area? Glad they woke up to this.. Toronto's a cash cow when it comes to the NHL.

I for one, would immediatly become a fan of the new team if Rim Guy was the owner...my like of the leafs is tied only by being my home city.

I would do it in a heartbeat,

the funny thing is this morning i heard a snip of a bettman interview in the FAN. It was from last week and in it he said that the league hasn't even considered or looked at relocation to any Canadian markets. and that all of the current teams are doing just fine. Nashville is just fine.

seriously. If this is true, then Bettman, maybe you should look into another canadian market (captain obvious speaking)

fuck i hate him.

I think this would be awesome. I would immediately become the number one fan of the new team.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president Richard Peddie said a second Toronto franchise would not be automatically rejected by his club.

"When and if the league brings expansion to the table, we'll listen and decide what is best (for hockey)," Peddie told the Globe.

Uh huh. Gee, I wonder what they'll 'decide'.

So there's a lot of puckheads here, Sean Avery: douchebag or non-douchebag?

Biggest douchebag in the league and even if he was on the Sens I don't think I could ever like him.

My colleague is best friend's with Derek Armstrong from the Kings and he's told me a ton of stories regarding Avery and he's not just a dick on the ice, but worse off the ice too. He can thank his parents for that too because they're almost as bad he is. And get this, his mom is a "super cunt" is apparently the one who Avery seems most like. She still starts fights to this day in the stands when she goes to watch him play.
