did anyone hear some of fletcher's bullshit from the press conference?

my personal favorite is that being the leaf coach is the "plum" job in the NHL.

PLUM? WTF.

then the plum is rotten.

Yeah.. hey coach, here's a shitty, shitty team. now get them into the playoffs. haha. plum...

What's the point of keeping Maurice around? New GM is just gonna want to hire his own guy, anyway.

I like the guy a lot.... he's a standup, classy dude.... but he doesn't have a great track record of success at the NHL level (3 playoff appearances in 9 seasons) He rep was really inflated by that miracle cup run.

Aw thats one year I'll never forget. 2002 playoffs, Eastern Conference Finals, Leafs vs Carolina. Jeff O'Neill scores the game winning goal to make Carolina advance to the Cup finals, only to get squattered by the Wings.

The leafs best chance of winning it all

Pens win Game 1 last night and already it looks like we're gonna have a Pitt-Det cup series.

What do you guys think?

I hate Pittsburgh but I hate Philly even more, so GO PENS.

Me personally now, I really don't care but growing up I always admired the Wings and I'm loving what Chris Osgoode is doing right now there. That man is playing the best hockey of his career and you rarely hear anything about him.

I can't stand the Wings, I got some relatives who are big fans and it'll kill me for them to win again, so +1 to "GO PENS"

Wow, last time both the Conference Finals Series were a sweep was the 92 playoffs. I don't believe it has happened anytime before that. (Obviousley after the original six)

Check it out

Fuck ... if Spezza's dealt this is the last time I ever buy a jersey. I own a handful and I don't think any of them have remained for the team that bought their jersey at the time for.

Eklunds a joke. He says Sundin has a 30% chance to go to Detroit and 5% Toronto. He's said 59328273 times he wants to retire a Leaf so how the hell is he going to Detroit when hes 37?? If he does i'll lose all my respect for him.

Who, me? I never criticize my Leafs. I love this team as much as my house for God's sake.

All I'm saying is that I can't see, at all, Sundin going to Detroit and retiring a Wing, it would never occur to me. I love Mats, he's my favourite all-time Leaf.

What I'm criticizing is Eklund, which apparently is some hockey genius that predicts trades and spreads rumours which are right 1 out of 20 times. I never listen to him. Sundin's staying in TO.

Oh I see.

See heres how it goes. The Toronto Maple Leafs, along with the Montreal Canadiens were the first two teams in the "NHL" back in the 1800s. Thats just a little history. The Leafs are almost like Italy in the World Cup, the most popular team and oldest team. The Leafs are like the Sixers in the NBA, popular, good and has a lot of history. A team like that cannot be missing the playoffs for 3 years straight. We, Leaf fans, are very, very disappointed in the organization and how the most popular team in the League, is turning out to be the worst team in the league.

I don't think I can explain it much more, its just that we shouldn't have to be worrying about "Oh no we have to win or we won't make the playoffs!" it should be more like "Oh man if we win this we win the Cup!". Because that is what Toronto Maple Leaf hockey is. Obviously it hasn't been even near to that yet and this is why you hear a lot of criticism, because we are supposed to be a franchise team. It's like Juventus/AC Milan in the Italia Serie A, Sixers/Lakers in the NBA, Yankees/Red Sox in the MLB etc etc

In short: The Leafs are the most popular team in the NHL and they haven't been doing well the past 3 years and it shouldn't be like that.

Did that clear everything up?

Bel, the other thing for Leaf fans is that they haven't won a championship in 40 some odd years. This streak of futility is one that has kinda plagued the franchise.

It's also the arrogance of most of their fans too. I can appreciated their optimism, but they are soooo fuckin' cocky that its beyond annoying.

And Bel, come on, Italy is arguably the most popular team in soccer. And don't you dare say Spain is.

Sad news.

Luc Bourdon a young defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks apparently died in a motorcycle accident today.
