ESPN reporting Cincinnati and Oakland close to a deal that would send Carson Palmer to Oakland and Cincinnati would received Oakland 2012 first round draft pick & a conditional 2013 first round draft pick.

overpaid a bit. 2nd round pick should have been the trade because he's declining, got a big contract and not even starting. Lets see if a return to Cali will do him any good.

Way overpaying, Palmer is overrated as hell. Oakland is still only an average team (regardless of record or anything) they'd be better off keeping those picks.

Before the injury palmer was great. Since then he hasn't been the same but he is still above average. Overpaid but Oakland is now a better football team.

Meh, I'd bet they could of found a better option with an offer like that, but oh well, it does solve their Campbell problem at least.

But paying that much for a QB that hasn't played this year, and the attitude he's showed (though some of that was the team as well) throughout the year is just bad. It was clear the Bengals wanted him out and gone, likely could of got it done for less.

the cowboys didnt blow anything,
they were beaten by arguably the best QB to ever play the game, and arguably the best coach on a last minute drive.
i wouldnt call that 'blowing' a game.

I don't know if they could have done it for less. Mike Brown is a old time owner who doesn't play nice with players. This is not the first time he did not trade a player who wanted out. He doesn't do it. He was not gonna trade Palmer unless he got a offer he couldn't refuse and he got that today.

I wouldn't worry about Palmer attitude in Oakland. A much better fit for him as he is a Cali boy. He is going back home, should be motivated, and although he hasn't played this year is it not like he has been gone from the game for a long time. He is not only the QB for this year but the next 5 years also so now Oakland has their QB.

I think Oakland improve and Cincinnati made a great trade. Also with the way Oakland has drafted in the past maybe it is better they don't have those draft picks. lol

Ya you could be right about that drafting, but it has to work eventually :P McFadden turned out alright at least, slow starter though.

This deal though is a HUGE risk for Oakland. If Palmer for some reason can't get it together, then Oakland fails on a huge gamble (suppose its always a risk with a trade of this sort). Early rumor is he might not even start on Sunday (although he likely will) to get the playbook down.

Regardless I'm not tryin to say he'll do terrible, but I think he's not going to do as great as people suspect. But if they can keep up with the Chargers, and actually make it in the playoffs, well hell anyone has a chance then. But its still early in the season, and teams haven't hit top gear yet.

Other than the Green Bay game, and possibly the games against the Chargers, Only the Bears and the Lions (who I'm not sold on yet) will give em a real run I think. I think they'll end up finishing around 9-7 though, maybe 10-6, don't think that'll do it for the AFC.

WHO KNOWS THOUGH!

No doubt. This is a much better trade for Cincinnati then it is for Oakland.

But like you said Oakland for the next few years only have to deal with SD in their division. At least on paper it seems that way. Palmer gives them a good shot to do that now. They now have a QB, RB(McFadden), and a good defense(very good DL). They need to upgrade on the WR and stuff but they now have pieces to play with other teams. They're still a second tier team in the AFC but lucky for them they only have to beat SD to get in the playoffs and like you said once you get in the playoffs ANYTHING can happen.

I would actually not play him this week. I would get him in, sit him this week, they have a bye next week, and then start him. That would give him 3 weeks of practice time to get the playbook down, timing with team, etc before he starts a game.

It is a huge risk but you know the old saying. Sometimes you gotta take huge risk to get high reward. This is them taking that shot. They overpaid but they're a better team. The question now is can they get the OTHER pieces to make them a great team.

I just think they should of waited it out and likely got him cheaper, I don't think they even have a shot at the playoffs this year, but it sets them up for next year at least, and know what they will be going in with at least.

Likely they'll ship Campbell out now for something.

I think the AFC is top heavy this year so I could see them in the playoff race.

AFC East - NE(5-1)
AFC North - Baltimore(4-1)/Pitt(4-2)
AFC South - Tennessee(3-2)/Houston(3-3)
AFC West - SD(4-1)/Oakland(4-2)

Wild Card 1: Baltimore(4-1)/Pitt(4-2)
Wild Card 2:

Alright. I think we can all agree NE will win the East. Baltimore/Pitt will win one of the North spots and I think we can agree the one that doesn't win it will win one of the Wild Card spots.

So Oakland can make the playoffs by
1. Having a better record then SD
2. Having a better recored then Tennessee or Houston(whoever doesn't win the South), NYJ(3-3), Bills(4-2). I think we can agree those are the teams that will fight for the last wild card spot.

Right now on paper I think you could argue Oakland could end up better then those teams. The Jets do not impress me this year so far. I think the Bills will come back down to earth later on also and finish 8-8 or so not good enough for the playoffs though. I think Jets will be the team they have to beat at the end for the last wild card spot and like I said so far they have some way to go(offense inconsistent).

I think they've a shot. Not saying they will because it all depends on how Palmer fits with the team and learns their system. We will not know that to we actually see them play.

I only give em a chance because they have an easier schedule other than the packers game.
