Yes, as was the gentleman who owned the Broncos (his name escapes me) before Bowlen.

Argos eye Fassel as head coach

Quote:
Jim Fassel
Onetime New York Giants' head coach Jim Fassel is someone the Toronto Argonauts are considering as a candidate for their vacant head coaching job, Sportsnet.ca has learned.

Fassel, currently working as a color commentator for NFL game broadcasts on Westwood One radio, worked for the Giants beginning in the late '90s In 1997, he was named NFL coach of the year and led the Giants to a Super Bowl finish in 2000. He was fired midway through the 2003 season.

He worked in 2004-2005 as offensive co-ordinator of Baltimore Racens.

The Argos view Fassel as someone who fits the profile of Montreal Alouettes' head coach Marc Trestman, a veteran position coach in the NFL and with experience working with high-profile quarterbacks. Trestman had virtually no CFL experience except for working three days as a guest coach with Montreal last year in training camp.

Similar to Trestman, he played quarterback.
Fassel I think is a fantastic Coach. I really can't believe a team hasn't hired him for offensive co-ordinator duties. Personally I don't follow the CFL too much ( I don't get the sense of urgency as I do watching the NFL) but if the Argos snag Fassel that would be a nice pick up for them

I think Fassel is a candidate for the Raiders, that's what I heard.
It will be interesting if he comes to the Argos and gives the CFL some cred.

Watch out for the Titans

The funny part is Fassell called up Al Davis and said he would be interested in the job not the other way around LOL

Fassel would do wonders in the CFL.

Even if they go 16-0, I think they'll lose their first playoff game.

In the NFL anything could happen. If you don't take care of the ball anyone can win.

The titans have a very good O line and Dline. When you are good in the trenches you can go a long way in the playoffs. I wouldn't dispell of them that quickly.

He wood, I just wish the CFL could have a bigger salary cap and get some of the players that are drafted at the latter stages of the NFL draft. There are some really good college football QB's and RB's that I don't see in the NFL and the CFL doesn't pick them up.

Well the Riders couldn't even afford Kerry Joseph how are they going to afford top talent. The problem with signing players that are just at the cusp of being NFL players is that they always bail out for NFL camp. NFL camp pays them a pretty penny (Just ask players like Kenton Kieth and Antonio Belli) so sometimes it ruins the cohesion of the team.

ALso some NFL players just aren't effective in the CFL. CFL require you to run double the route patterns for recievers and have tail backs being more blockers and recievers than actually backs.

Its a QB league for sure littered with the ability to get in the air. Even though this year was a big Tail Back year its usually not the case.

Ask Rich Stubler he has made a living disrespecting the run in the CFL (worst move ever firing that guy)

Stubler wasn't cut out to be a head coach - at least yet. Especially in a offense dominated league, you don't see a defense-first head coach thriving in the CFL. That's why Fassel would be a head coach here and that's why Trestman and Huffnagel as prospering as rookie head coaches.

Apparently, there are also whispers that the Argos are interested in Doug Flutie as a HC.

Stubler got a raw deal I think. You may be right having offensive COaches in the CFL considering it is a QB league.

Stubler might have been hard done by as a head coach but you must admit he is a fantastic defensive coordinator

As far as DC goes, he's one of the league's all time best. That Argo Defense was fantastic. If Stubler was still the DC and someone else was the HC this year (let's say Huffnagel or even Danny Barrett), this team would have made the playoffs. Stubler just rubbed people the wrong way. He's not the only one to blame - Adam Rita made some questionable moves which lead to Stubler's demise.

Personally I think a big part is that the team just got old fast. It happens you have the same defense for so long bring in a new DC everything just happens altogether

When did the Bills get an offense, 56 points. Dare I have confidence

The Titans finally lost, now they're more dangerous than ever.

Cassell looks good in NE, The Patriots might not need Brady anymore

The Giants are far and away the best team this year, just like NE last yea, so don't look for them to win the Superbowl

Super Bowl: Battle of NY, looks like it right now

HAHA titans just got exposed is all. Titans have to face another great D in the Steelers lets see how they handle them.

As for the Bills ... they beat the friggin Chiefs who really cares.

I dunno the difference is the Giants had their gaff already with the Browns. No Jacobs and No Burress = Win. I didn't get the onside kick by the cards with 4 minutes to go. I suppose they thought they couldn't stop Eli and the boys. I saw Eli all smiles today as he finally got to throw the ball in the air with "Earth" gone.

I'm just hoping that the Giants success doesn't go to their heads. Their starting to get a little cocky as we saw yesterday after a couple of their TD's against the Cards.

You have to admit though that Cards Offense is rather scary. They have 4 nice recievers and put up a fight against two good teams in the Jets and the Giants.

Maybe the Giants are getting a little cocky but I must say as a Life Long Giants fan its pretty dam good being a fan now. It really masks trying to support the other Toronto Teams and the Orange Basketball team

Giants looked good without Burress and Jacobs - they got a tough schedule coming up. The game against the Cowboys (who are now re-starting to find their groove) should be a dandy.
