I think Machida's recent success has gone to his head a little. Mentally I don't think he came in prepared for this fight and underestimated Shogun greatly. I bet if these 2 fight again in another 6 months it will be a much different outcome. This was a wake up call for Machida. Almost losing last night I think will be a good thing for his career. He'll come out an even better and stronger fighter next time.

After seeing this fight, out of all the Champs Machida looks like the one that can be knocked off the easiest. Probably due to the depth in the LW division.

No one is still fuckin with BJ (Although I have high hopes for Diego)
No one is still fuckin with GSP
No one is still fuckin with Silva
No one is still fuckin with Brock

Agreed completely. That was as good as a loss ... and hopefully he will learn from it, the way guys like GSP have learned from theirs.

I think he took Shogun lightly as well. He seemed almost cocky at the beginning of the fight.

I completely forgot about that. Rogan was extremely biased. Horrible commentary. It's one thing to secretly root for a guy, but like you said, every time their was an exchange with both guys landing a blow, Rogan was only pointing out Shoguns.

Yeah it was annoying. Ill still agree though ... while I was cheering for Machida ... it was a very close fight ... but I actually thought it was leaning towards Shogun winning too.

I wouldnt complain if he won the decision. But I also can see how the judges gave it to machida. The outrage is a bit unjustified. Just a tad.

Shogun said it himself in the interview after the fight, "my corner told me after every round I was ahead in the fight".

Thinking he hadthe belt wrapped up because he worn down his legs and lower body?? To actually deserve the belt, he should of had to actually take advantage of Machida's aching legs and torso and deliver some real punishment. But he didn't even try to do that.

Like you said, if shogun won, nobody would of been complaining, but this was definitely no Lewis/Holyfield type decision.

The best thing about Machida (to those who have watched a few of his fights)... is where he throws a half punch. This punch goes half way to his opponent but has no intention of landing, but only to draw a counter from his opponent.

Then after he times their punch and dodges, he storms at them. This however didn't work because Shogun would throw swinging kicks lol. Good strategy on Rua's part though I have to say, there was no way he was going to make the mistake as everyone and come swinging at Machida.

I thought Shogun could pull off a win, looks like it wasn't a farfetched idea

Machida, Rua agree to rematch

In a night when discrepancy won out, there was one thing UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and UFC president Dana White could all agree upon: A rematch between the two Brazilians, who came to blows at UFC 104 Saturday in Los Angeles, is in order.

I didn't see it. But I would remind you guys of a pretty common rule. In any title fight, MMA or Boxing, the general rule is that the Challenger, in order to take the title with a decision, usually has to entirely dominate. He cannot just squeak it out.

Again, I didn't see it, but I hear it was fairly even, so a moral victory maybe, but not enough to earn the title change.

I had that rule on the corner of my head when Machida got his hand raised.

Before this Macida / Shogun UFC I have to tell you I put myself on a bit of a ban of the UFC and I'm glad I'm doing so after the past result. The fact is I think it way too much of a Saturday Night commitment to watch only one good MMA fight. You really have to have 2 really good cards to turn my head from now on. Since UFC 100 their has been in my mind only one good UFC and that was the BJ Penn inserted UFC (I forget who else was in it but I remember being satisfied).

Now you have Shogun / Machida. Two great fighters one being champ and the other having a very good MMA background. What does UFC do but pull a BOXING and have idiot judges declaring a winner.

Thank you UFC for wasting many Saturday nights my ban so far is well worth it

Yes thats quite the quality card and I'll watch that. However; I'm just tired of UFCs watered down events. Not a big fan of Lesnar for various reasons but I always like seeing him go inside that ring in what I like to call the "basterization" of MMA.

Edit: Just remembered good chance Lesnar will not fight.

But you have to admit that no other organization out there can compete with the UFC's Light-heavyweight Division.
