Default national anthems in sports.

I hate it.

I don't know why we do it. For years i've wondered what the point of it all was. I can understand doing it for a game involving national teams, but for just a regular game between 2 teams in whatever league... it just seems totally unnessesary and not even connected to the event at hand.

Am i alone?

for those that disagree, please tell me why it's actually done. If i can understand why it has a place then maybe i can come around to it.

they stopped doing it before showing movies in theaters, they should stop before games as well. But they won't, because it's too easy for some people to draw a connection between competitive sports and those in the military.

oh man as much as i am a fan of Marvin Gaye's full body of work, that really misses the mark for me.

i think it was more the fact that no one had ever really altered the arrangement of the national anthem before. marvin showed up half an hour late, missed sound check, and did the whole thing off the cuff.

lmao they used to do it before watching a movie at the theatres? Seems pretty awkward standing for the national anthem before watching Iron man 2...or are we talking about plays here?

probably plays too. It was actually before my time, and I don't get to say that too often.

i with you fancy but afterall sports are just a mindless distraction ment to dumb down the masses while the government does all they can to screw everybody but the wealthy.
They'll keep injecting that patriotic bullshit into sports until sports are no more because most people eat that shit up and go with it

the worst is at Toronto FC games where the announcer tells everyone to "HOLD YOUR SCARVES UP HIGH AND JOIN IN THE SINGING OF O CANADA". ...yeah there's something that isn't forced.

They really need to do away with this stuff in domestic leagues.
