MLB/Jays Thread

Okay, has anyone taken notice of what the Detroit Tigers are doing? Acquiring Dontrell Willis, Miggy Cabrera and Edgar Renterria this off-season? Just sick.

As for the Jays, there are rumblings that they made trade Rios to San Francisco to Tim Linsecum, and that they may take a run at acquiring All-Star and Canadian outfielder Jason Bay from the Pirates

Just heard they are after Kenny Lofton on the fan.

What would they have to give Pitt for Bay?..A.J isnt getting it done.

Be great if we got Bay and Morneau in town :)

MangoKidHoops 12-05-2007 11:21 AM

The Jays are after Kenny Lofton? I can see that. That would allow the Jays to pave the way to deal Rios...

MangoKidHoops 12-05-2007 11:21 AM

There was discussions that the Orioles might bite for an AJ + prospect or two for Bedard, but I doubt it. The Mets have been making serious overtures about getting some pitching and have offered a bevy of prospects for Bedard.

Claudius 12-05-2007 11:31 AM

I heard this morning from my source, and if anyone played fantasy baseball with me, will know this source, that the Jays are offering Rios/McGowan plus a prospect for Bedard. Also, the Lincecum deal is on the table but the Giants are gonna wait it out. Lofton is probably a done deal by now, unless the Indians want to re-up him. Oh, and I was told that Tejada is coveted by the Jays as well. The Pittsburgh rumor is just that; a rumor.

Cool "C2G-2G"

The fan just said Bay may be on his way to Cleveland.

Rios and Dustin...may be too much for Bedard IMO

Yeah, I just heard that Cleveland thing on the Fan too.

The Rios and Dustin thing is too much that's why I think they're looking at Tejada too because the O's want to unload him in a bad way. That being said, I'm a huge Bedard fan, and if he's beyond his injury last season, I think the kid puts this team over the top. A 1-2 punch of Halladay - Bedard is unbelievable and if you keep AJ, who because it's a contract year will have a career year, at the 3 spot; that's a 1-2-3 punch you can't beat regardless if you're the Yanks or BoSox.

Acie 12-05-2007 11:55 AM

Once the Bo Sox are doing wheeling and dealing it won't matter what any of these "minor" league AL East teams do. :)

MangoKidHoops 12-05-2007 11:58 AM

I'd prefer to trade Burnett to Baltimore (he's a Baltimore area guy) because dude is going to opt out next year anyways. I'd do Burnett and prospects for Bedard. I wouldn't trade Rios in division. Doesn't matter anyways, there's no way a deal of this magnitude goes down "in-division", unless Tejada is involved. I'd do Rios + Burnett (not a fan of giving up McGowan, but if push comes to shove, I might do that) for Bedard + Tejada.
I think Burnett opts out next year anyways.

If the Lofton news is indeed true, I think it's a great signing. Put him in left and have him leading off.

Cleveland wants a corner outfielder with pop in the worst way. The Tribe have enough good young pieces to send the Bucs way for Bay

Apparently the Jays would LOVE Yovanni Gallardo from Milwaukee but they're not biting on Rios.

Gallardo is a very solid young pitcher, but I wouldn't give up Rios just for him.

If i'm a free agent I think long and hard about coming to Toronto. Seems to be the injury capital of the league lately :( I like the team we had last year...if they could stay healthy.

Bedard>Dustin...so no problem there.

Lofton ,Wells, Johnson/Stairs is good enough for me.

Tejada, Johnny Mac, Hill, Overbay. Is good, Troy being odd man out...So if you can move him or Frank...do it.

The pitching staff would be stacked.

Roy
Bedard
A.J
Marcum
Jannsson/Chacin/Litchse

Yes please...I like it.

MangoKidHoops 12-05-2007 12:21 PM

I'd put Lind in right.. unless he's part of a package deal. The really hot word now is Rios to San Fran for either Lincecum or Matt Cain.

MangoKidHoops 12-05-2007 12:25 PM

The thing about Tejada is that his defense is CRAP..He might have to move over to third..and no one wants to touch Glaus because of his ties to steriod allegations.. and because he's a damn gimp. Signing Frank Thomas was such a huge mistake. The Orioles want someone to take on/eat his remaining contract - 2 years, 26 million.

I don't care what we do, I just want the glory days from the early 90's back again in Toronto. :(

MangoKidHoops 12-05-2007 01:05 PM

Well, we got the powder blue uniforms for Flashback Fridays.. I heart those throwbacks.

Love them and as well the old Jays hat and logo. I'm not into the new Jays logo for some reason, but I guess it was time to change it. :(

Anyhow, what\'s the deal with Chacin? Anyone think this guy can pitch through an entire season without having a season ending surgery?

Tommy2Tymes 12-05-2007 01:13 PM

i dont understand why the jays want to move Rios? Whats the rush? Same goes for McGowan. I love bedard, but financially that is a bad move for the Jays cosidering Bedard will demand more money in 2 years while Dustin will still be arb eligible. Plus, Dustin showed real progress this season. This smells like another Overbay deal
