Dr. J, I'm with ya

I fuckin hate the Jays. But then again, I also fuckin hate the MLB in general. Other than the fact that the game is boring, I hate the "can't compete without money" system, which coupled with only 4 teams making the playoffs and a draft that doesn't make much of a difference, make following a mediocore to bad team an absolute drag.

If the Riccardi is smart he begins to unload some players right now.

First on that list should be Roy Halladay. He still has tremendous value, he's getting older and his window is closing sadly. You can get MLB ready prospects for him and teams like Florida could be in the market because they're a few pitchers away from being dangerous. Try to steal Maybin away from them and you have a nice future with Maybin/Rios/Lind in the OF.

Look to deal Wells to a team that could use or believe that he has offensive power. Ideally I'd love to deal him to the A's and grab Carlos Gonzalez. Again the other team I would target, because they have a plethora of young kids would be:

Reid Brignac (SS)
Wade Davis (P)

or

David Price (P)

Oh, and if the Jays decide to trade Snider, and teams have asked, it will go down as one of the dumbest moves ever.

So Gibbons - FINALLY!!!! was fired and replaced by....

Quote:
John Gibbons' tenure as Jays manager is over, and a familiar face is taking over the team.

The Jays fired Gibbons Friday afternoon in Pittsburgh, and Cito Gaston will take over the team full-time.

cito, eh?

that's pretty cool. but i'm afraid i just don't care anymore.

Personally i think it's a PR move - but again: I've stopped caring. Baseball has taken a seat right next to hockey in my heart.

and...on top of hiring back Cito..

Quote:
After being swept in Milwaukee by the Brewers and losing five straight game, the Toronto Blue Jays have fired manager John Gibbons, coaches Marty Pevey, Ernie Whitt and Gary Denbo.

Cito Gaston has returned as the manager for the remainder of the season. Nick Leyva will coach at third base and Gene Tenace returns as the hitting coach - both coaches from the Blue Jays 1992 and 1993 World Series title era. Roving hitting instructor Dwayne Murphy will take over as the first base coach.

JP must go.

His rant the other night about Adam Dunn was the last straw for me. Classless moron is what he is.

Nice to see Cito back.... the good news for him is that he can't do much worse. Also good is the fact that he speaks english.

Yep. Don't care one bit. Yet I heard about Cito and how they won their 2 World Series with him. Smart move I guess.

Hockey/Leafs blow big time!!The constant rule tweeking, threats of widening the nets and all that crap has ruined what used to be my favorite sport with Basketball. Now Basketball is by far my favoite sport, followed by baseball, football, and then maybe Hockey!!

It's become such a boring game and overhyped media in Toronto has driven me away even more.Good lord on trade deadline day there were three networks on from 7am-6pm talking about trades with 3-4 panels yaking away! Can anyone say overkill!!I wish we'd get another lockout and not have hockey again for 2-3 years..

The other day, Bob Elliott wrote that the current Jays squad and their horrible slide reminded him of the '89 season when they fired Jimy Williams and hired, you guessed it, Cito Gaston. Weird shit.

Ricciardi's next.

give up burnett for some good bats

we need better lead-off hitters!!

Giving up Burnett will not get you good bats. What Burnett is going to get you is a couple of prospects or a combo prospect/pick. Think about it this way: If you're a team that wants Burnett, you're probably looking for a guy with good stuff who can fit right into your rotation because you're making a push, right? So, let's just say the Cubs and Yankees for example. If you're trying to make that push (or stay on top), you're not going to want to part with a big bat, because that is half of the key to your push, right?

As far as leadoff hitters, the Jays don't have to worry so much about that. The problem with the Jays has not been getting on base as much as it has been cashing guys when they get on base. They don't hit for power. Changing leadoff hitters will not make a difference.

As far as the Cito hiring, I don't mind seeing him back. Cito always said not to give him a bunch of rookies and expect to win. With the Jays of today, he certainly doesn't have that. Veterans also respect Cito because he knows how to manage them. They have respect for him and when you can flash a couple of rings, that doesn't hurt either.

Anyway, they just need the bats in the middle of the lineup to wake up.

ding ding ding!!!

We have a winner.

Well said Jeff.

I've made the exact same points in the past.

Another example: the Fan 590. supposed "all sports" radio. How come the season is done, yet all i ever fucking hear when i turn on that station is hockey hockey hockey - specifically on the morning show. Like even in the summer. For fuck's sake, these toronto media guys should be forced to watch other sports.

Jays are on a mini roll 5 wins out of 6, hopefully this is for real and we make run like the rockies did last year.

Who's gonna be watching the homerun derby tomorrow and the all star game on tuesday?

I score 1 baseball game a year - the All Star game. I've been doing it since I was 10.
I don't particularly like the All-Star home run derby and all that crap. It really ruins your timing. Look at Alex Rios. Ever since the derby at last year's festivities in San Fran, his timing att the plate isn't as good as it was pre-all star game.
Btw, I predict Ryan Braun to win the derby tonight.
