Jays reportedly turn down Orioles offer of OF Justin Upton for Jays prospect Jeff Hoffman.

The kid must be something special.

Hoffman was supposed to go 1st in his draft but he needed Tommy John, so his stock dropped. Although nowadays TJ surgery while young isn't so bad because it's a common surgery.

But am I missing something here. Doesn't Upton play for the Padres? How could the O's offer him.

No the Orioles wanted the jays 3 of the jays top prospects (and rumored to be even more) for Dukette...

Sorry, said the wrong team. But Hoffman was the centerpiece of the deal that the Braves wanted in return for Upton

This whole Orioles/Blue Jay thing has been a mess.

Beeston is gonna stay on for the 2015 season after basically being shown the door.

Usually teams let their own guys walk if they are being offered a better job, it's crazy how stubborn the O's owner is. The dude wanted 3 of our top prospects for a suit. Just crazy.

O's are also in a legal battle with MLB for TV rights because of the territorial dispute between the O's and Nats.

Plus the O's were supposed to have the all-star game next year or the year after, but the MLB awarded it to the Padres instead. (MLB way of saying fuck off to the O's)

O's have some serious drama going on.

Casey Janssen went to the Nats.

He was solid here, I think he'll do pretty damn good as a set-up man/closer in the NL.

Michael Saunders out for half the season after tearing his meniscus.

Well that sucks.

Also that news about Saunders sucks, not a good way to start the season off at all, and it hasn't even started yet.

SO many holes in this lineup...and Rogers won't spend a time to fix them

Nope, just another year of losing with stupid excuses. We had a horrid starting rotation last year, and it got no better, our bullpen wasn't anything special either, and if anything it got worse. Donaldson was an upgrade, as was Russ, but thats about it, they did nothing else to improve a team that played horribly last year. I don't expect much from the jays this year.

Horrid starting pitching? What team are you talking about? They improved from 28 to 17 (as far as quality starts go), and that was with a rookie for half the year and another guy coming off a surgery. Now you have a second year pitcher in stroman who looked INCREDIBLE down the stretch as well as Hutchison a year healthier and you think that's horrid?

The starters AND bullpen will most likely be better just by having Martin catch them.

Look back at the series last sept vs the Cubs. Navarro knew that lineup and they carved them up. Imagine if you had a catcher who was that prepared every day?!?

We haven't had a good game calling catcher in years.... I suspect you'll see what a difference it makes

If this team adds a bat or two (or if that bat or two comes in the form of pillar or Pompey) this team will play in October for sure. In spite of rogers

28 is bad, and so is 17th for a team that wants to contend/make the playoffs, mind you they may hit 12th? Maybe? Thats acceptable I guess, but when playing against the AL east, probably not. They're likely going to be having Navarro play first, I have no faith in that, they have pretty much a rookie in centre, god knows who in left yet now that Saunders is on the IR, and Micer (sp?) at second.

Theres massive holes in every aspect of the team, you can try to oversell it all you want. But given they've had better teams in the past that flopped, I don't see this one being THAT much better to compete in the east. They're best bet in the current state is to make it as a wild card.

It's not that I think the team is THAT bad, but you have to remember what division they're in, they have to be that much better. I hope they are, but I just don't see it.

On a side note, this whole thing where Dickey is trying to demand Thole has to catch for him is ridiculous, you're forcing them to keep a roster spot for a guy who will only play when you do.

signing Viciedo is a solid depth move until saunders returns

relatively young (25) and had 21 dingers last year

Sweet I'm liking the moves AA has made this offseason aside from the Lind trade

Justin Smoak can't hit worth a lick but he can play first base really well. Need a guy like this when Jose Reyes is airmailing throws from short.

Stroman, Hutch, Sanchez, Norris. Jays got a nice little roster of young, talented pitchers. Plus guys like Hoffman in the pipeline.
