They were playing decent ball at the end of July winning 6 in a row. It coincided with when you disappeared from the baseball thread. Jays play OK, you stop posting. Jays start playing bad, you need to tell people how horrible the Jays are.

Going to the game this Sunday to see Jeter play for the last time. He better be in the lineup.

he's 33
one of THE best power hitters in the game today
can play/has experience at 6 different positions
locked in for another 2 years(?) on a reasonable contract
started 2014 with a streak of 37 games where he reached base safely (longest in Blue Jays history)

has played in 126 games (so far)
scored 75 runs
452 at bats
25 home runs
78 RBIs
.281 average
.397 OBP
.500 SLG
.897 OPS
all this while being surrounded by what is essentially an AA lineup for a good portion of this season

a true leader on and off the field...one of only 2 players who publicly questioned this organization's commitment to winning

ya, let's get rid of him

What could we hypothetically get for Bautista though. 2 blue chip prospects? 3 maybe?

He'll be 34 in 5-6 weeks.....so he's 34. Now do you think this team can win in the next year or two? If not, why hold onto your best asset until he's 35-36 and starts declining on a team going nowhere, when you can max out his value now....

I would trade him depending on the package we could get without even hesitating. Hell, he was apparently on the trade block last winter.....at least that's what we were hearing. Unless of course the organization decides to spend some more in the offseason.....which seems unlikely. So with him, where have we gone? How good will this team be in the next year or two with him? And he's getting frustrated, what if he asks to be traded in the next year if we continue to spin our wheels and the org continues to cheap out?

this team is very close...trading proven/elite talent means this organization is moving backwards

here's an idea...spend some of the BILLIONS you have in the bank and go out and get a proven 2nd baseman, a proven DH...and some proven/veteran bench players who can actually contribute on a regular basis
then go out and beef up/fix your terrible starting rotation...memo to Rogers...it's just isn't good enough...and no matter how much you try to pour the koolaid, noone is listening anymore !

this crappy ownership had a chance to win this year...and they did NOTHING

That's the thing, they're far too cheap. As it is this team is going nowhere and unless they start spending more, especially on pitching they are going to continue being mediocre. But I doubt they spend much in FA, so that leaves trades. And what is this team "very close" to?

they've got a very strong core
Bautista
Encarnacion
Reyes
Cabrera
Navarro
Lawrie
bullpen is very solid
excellent closer

starting rotation is brutal...but Rogers continues to try to convince us otherwise
this team is not far away from going for it but it'll never happen...cause Rogers won't commit

but hey, let's get rid of Bautista because he whines too much

VERY?

Mehh, like I said if the org goes out and spends, especially on pitching then sure keep him. But is that going to happen? And Cabrera imo will be gone this offseason unless they really pony up big cash. And if they do you can forget them spending anything more in FA. Lawrie and Reyes are injury prone players so I'm hardly sold on that core tbh. Our starting pitching staff sucks balls.

You say it'll never happen because Rogers won't commit.....but hold onto our best asset who in a year will be pushing 35 and is already publically bitching about the org? I'll make a prediction that if he's still here a year from now and we're no better he'll ask to be dealt.

c'mon jeff...at least do some homework before you join in these discussions

fact is the Jays are ranked 5th overall in hitting in the league...
ranked 12th in fielding...which i'll blame on the fact we're so weak up the middle...get a proven 2nd baseman and this team moves up dramatically cause everywhere else we are pretty solid
ranked 24th (out of 30) in pitching..we all know how bad we are...but Rogers continues to pour the koolaid

Obviously this team has it's strengths and yes I know what they are, but this team isn't that close imo. There are apparently problems in the dressing room which you have even pointed to, we have many problems with the pitching staff which there isn't a quick fix for unless you throw a lot of money at it and that won't happen. Holes include 2nd baseman, Center fielder (Not a Rasmus fan and Gose is inconsistent offensively to say the least), pitching and we'll likely lose Cabrera as well imo. Unless they decide to seriously go for it and spend, why keep Bautista? They need to shit or get off the pot, it's that simple. If we keep Bautista they better go out this winter and spend/make trades because the window on some of these players and this team as currently constructed is closing. If they don't spend and continue to stand pat, Bautista will want out anyway imo.

if you trade bautista for prospects we won't see for 2-3 more years and fail to bring back cabrera, you lose all the remaining fans who aren't die hard baseball nuts. rogers went all-in on this squad in the short term. i say rogers spends money now because the long-term impact of another failure and rebuild would potentially be catastrophic. torontonians care about baseball again. rogers needs to hold on to that for the benefit of their bottom line.
