Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons maintained all along that left-hander J.A. Happ belonged on the team. Now it's official.

The demotion of left-hander Ricky Romero on Tuesday put Happ in the Blue Jays starting rotation as fifth starter.

The Blue Jays then showed their faith in Happ on Wednesday by awarding him a two-year contract extension worth US$8.9 million, superseding an earlier contract signed in January, with a club option for 2015.

Steve Delabar (R)
Esmil Rogers (R)
Jeremy Jeffress (R)
Darren Oliver (L)
Aaron Loup (L)
Brett Cecil (L)

think he's being a stretched out as a starter in buffalo, guess he wouldn't of made the team as a bullpen arm. which is odd considering he was a great back end reliever for Pitt last year but faltered a bit when he come to TO

he's the #7 starter. I think they want see if the can be a starter in the beginning of the season and move him to the pen later if it doesn't work out.

How so?

Take the Angels for example, with a lineup featuring Trout, Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Trumbo. How about Detroit (Cabrera, Fielder, Victor Martinez)?

Yankees should be a weaker hitting team than last year (declining ARod and Jeter, no Swisher)

Did you mean AL East?

I see the Rays as our biggest competition. They're a crafty bunch. They'll find a way to be in the hunt at the end of the year.

doesn't seem like the jays and romero are on the same page

Romero blindsided by demotion to minor leagues - Sportsnet.ca

“It was my first day here (Wednesday), we just worked on some stuff. Like I told them, for me it’s not mechanical, it’s more just getting right mentally, getting that confidence and feeling right. I felt like after that last start there (Tuesday against the Pirates) I was feeling it again, and obviously then you get knocked down like that right after the game, it’s something you don’t expect, it hurts and it hits me to the bottom of my heart because I care so much and I’ve worked so hard for everything I have. It is what it is.”

Yeah I read that, he sent his car and everything to TO. I dont know why he seems shocked though, he has not been good. A stint in the minors can do good, helped Halladay, Delgado, Edwin, Lind so far etc.

Which is too bad considering we traded Snider for a #7 starter.

No room for Snider, he had little value anyways. He wasn't even that good for Pitt last year. All his power numbers dropped.
