Bautista hitting clean-up for the All-Star team. Nice to get some league-wide recognition for the Jays.

i'm happy with that contract, as long as he doesn't get fat again.

Good piece of business by AA. Lock down a heavy hitter for 9 mil per when you would pay way more for him during the offseason. Next to Hamilton he would of been the best bat in free agency

Justin Upton to Blue Jays? Hey Jays need pitching but if you can stick him in Left field the positional players look pretty dam good
Quote:
The Toronto Blue Jays could use Upton and might be attracted by the cost certainty. He's making $6.75 million this year and is set to make $9.75 million in 2013, $14.25 million in 2014 and $14.5 million in 2015. But the Blue Jays don't need an offensive player as much as they need pitching.

Very true but Upton is legit. All you have at LF now is a hope and a prayer. I know pitching is top priority but when your are dealing with a team in position of strength sometimes you can get a deal at a very good bargain

Hmmm, Jays need pitching. They like young, controllable players with upside. If they were to make a trade then I would speculate them targeting guys like Bud Norris and Jeff Samardzija. I would lean more towards Norris as he has some established numbers, unlike Samardzija who is just in his first full year as a starter. As rebuilding clubs, the Astros and Cubs should be fine with taking prospects in return that are not currently major league ready.

For what you would have to give up, I'd prefer Samardzija and Norris over Garza, Dempster, and Wandy Rodriguez.

Samardzija would be a hard piece to get. I'd think he'll only get dealt when Garza goes. CUbs are #1 sellers this trade deadline so look for them to drive the price as high as possible. As for Norris I'll just say I hope the jays just get an arm that can go 6-7 and let the bats have a chance to win every game.

Personally Dempster would be a nice piece for the Jays. We see what happens.

I remember the had interest in Garza already and backed off due to the price being extremely high. That was about a month and a half or so ago was it not? If that was the case it probably still is, along with Demptster.

Fuck it make a run at Cole Hammels.

Would you give up for example Gose+Hechavarria+Aaron Sanchez for a few months of Cole Hamels? I wouldn't.

Even if the Jays were to shell out money and sign Hamels to a new deal, I still wouldn't do it. That's just me, and I hope the Jays would agree.

If Hammels is traded he is a clear rent a player. There is a less than zero chance he resigns.

AA will have to be really creative if he can upgrade this club. Quite frankly between this trade deadline and this winter he must. Bautista and EE aren't exactly young

Well I was going under the assumption that we'd make him re-sign before any deal for him ever got made.

We have no pitching and still have a legit shot if we pick it up, I'd do it in no time (again assuming he would re-sign)

If the Jays are going to let go of top prospects in a trade then I would agree that they should get Justin Upton. Although he strikes out alot and there may be a lingering issue with his shoulder, dude will only be turning 25 in August. The skills and talent are there, and he hasn't even reached his prime yet.

J-Up hitting in the heart of the current Jays line up would be just DEADLY.

Jays have a ton of arms in A ball just none of them are even close to be ready. Another problem is out of every A ball big league pitcher about 4 of them never see a consistent big league season. (rough idea)

If you add Upton it secures LF for the next several years. An OF of Upton, Rasmus, Bautista is just nasty.

On top of that you may have an asset like Anthony Gose (who still hasn't really learned how to hit that well) as a potential player that you can use to fetch a high quality SP possibly in the off season (Felix?)

There really shouldn't be a need to acquire a stop gap right now. The price for SP is way too high right now and it would possibly require sacrificing a top end spec for a mid to below average starter.
