Lindstrom should open, unless something changed as the closer in Florida. Hermida I think has finally put it all together. Or will at least. As long as he stays healthy, he's still a stud.

And I like Schafer a lot too. If he ends up hitting at the top of the order, as I believe is planned, then he'll be a mighty fine replacement for Andruw Jones.

If the guys they acquired deliver, it shouldn't be a question. The bullpen is shaky, but the starting pitching, should they be true to form, will be one of the best in the majors (Sabathia, Burnett, Chamberlain, Wang and Pettite).

Schafer is good. He looked great last night. And as for being a replacement for Jones - shit, a guy dressed in a Sumo suit could do just as a good job - although I hear Andruw had a pretty good spring for the Rangers. Good enough to break camp and be in the starting lineup.

8th inning and the Jays up 12-5, what happens then? Fans start throwing shit onto the field and at the Tiger players. Leyland then pulls his players off the field and the PA announcer comes on to say that if it continues the game will be forfeit. Classy, didn't shit like this happen last season too, with to many drunks in the upper deck level?

My concern with the Yanks is it's New York. It's a different beast.

AJ to me is too frail for that market. He has all the stuff but he would've been better in Chicago, specifically with the White Sox. Pressure yes, but not what he'll experience in NY if he has even ONE bad game. Knowing his mental framework, I just see it as a disaster. He's their no. 2 and I see a 12-12 year outta him.

CC, I'll say right now, will be a disappointment. Again, I don't see him having the mental framework. He'll win his games, but I just don't see the dominant pitcher that he thinks he is.

To me the success depends on Wang really. He just wins. Doesn't overpower, just wins. Pettitte is done. They gotta Hughes up and figure if Joba is a starter or a closer.

I still see them as the third best team and their offence just doesn't scare me as it used to. Hell, Jeter has become both a defensive and offensive liability.

And Jones is batting 4th in the Texas line up and specifically going up against southpaws. He should put up big numbers in his limited time.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland's main concern was the safety of the players, but he said the incident was "no big deal."

"There were thousands of great fans here tonight," Leyland said. "Ice-cold Labatts and a big win for the Blue Jays -- they were having a great time. But you can't endanger any players, whether they're you're players or someone else's. You just can't do it."

Toronto manager Cito Gaston agreed.

"I've never seen that here before," Gaston said. "I apologize to those Detroit players, a couple of those balls came really close to hitting those kids out there."

Halladay called Opening Day "a different animal" when it comes to fan behavior.

heh. i actually watched most of this game. Rare, because my interest for baseball has seriosuly gone down in the last few years.

I don't recall the offense ever coming out like they did yesterday. that was majorly refreshing. Aaron Hill looked a little shaky fielding out there, but maybe it was just the pressure of opening day. Travis Snider and Adam Lind were absolute beasts. just awesome. Two great young players.

I really hope the jays can at least win this series. Start winning series regularilly and build up a winning attitude. unfortunately it seems like many baseball fans (myself included) are pretty fickle and need the team to start consistently winning to keep our interest. Yesterday was a good step in that direction.

someone threw a baseball. then other people threw more balls and some garbage. It really wasn't a big deal IMO.

Throwing stuff on the field is really a stupid thing to do though. I've seen worse at TFC games where some opossing players have actually been hit be full glasses of beer.

stupid.

The offense will be better this year and the bullpen is still solid
Just have to see how the other pitchers turn out

Rogers Centre to go dry tonight

Quote:
Alcohol infractions dating back to 2007 has lead to a deal between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to suspend liquor sales at Rogers Centre for three events: tonight's Blue Jays game, an April 21 game and a future Toronto Argonauts match.

It is rare, to say the least, to have a sports facility agree to such a solution: beer sales are a highly lucrative source of revenue for any baseball game. But the infractions were pretty serious, apparently, with fans sneaking their own booze into the facility.

Fans who prefer beer with their baseball can trade in ducats for either of the dry dates for a different Blue Jays game.

I loved the fact no one would go near Roy in the dugout after that bad inning he had. I wish the rest of the team had as much passion as he. I swear I saw smoke coming from his ears.

And can we get rid of Jamie Campbell? Dude has not improved at all.

"That's Roy Lichtenstei--err, Halladay's fifth strikeout, sorry 4th strikeout on the day, excuse me, on the night here at Exhibitio--err, Rogers Stadium on a hot, sorry, cold day, night here in Tenness--err, Toronto...duhhhh..."

Throwing the baseball was silly, but come on, people have been throwing batteries and coins in Philly, New York and Detroit for years.

For the most part, it was just paper airplanes being thrown. Its actually pretty funny.
Years ago the Jays put on a promotion by where they sold all their tickets for $1 each. Needless to say the stadium was jam packed and by the end, people were throwing paper airplanes on the field. It was a real sight to see.

As for the beer thrown at Drew Carey, who cares? If someone wants to spend/waste $8 to throw their beer, so be it, but I can't see too many people doing that. I know I wouldn't be a part of that.

2 - 0 baby!

I actually wanted to watch the game yesterday, but TV wasn't showing it. My hate for Ricciardi is being trumped by my support for Cito. I have decided i will give the jays a chance this year.

If Purcey can get 12-14 wins, Litsch 12-14 and then the big wild card in all of this Casey Jannsen (who reminds me of Greg Maddux to be honest) can get the wins they'll surprise alot of teams.

Riccardi deserves alot of hate though. He has no true philosophy to the game. He tried to emulate Billy Beane, but when he couldn't decided to spend ridiculous money. It got him nowhere. Oh well...

I was reading an article on Theo Epstein that likened him to another young successful GM - JP Ricciardi.

Alternate reality maybe?

Nice little start for the Jays. Not getting my hopes up though - once the scouting report comes out on this batch of unknowns we'll be losing a whole lot more than we'll be winning.
