Reality happened to him. He had some injury issues, came back too early and has now done further damage. When you're already a soft-tosser, at least you don't have to completely reinvent yourself, but I wouldn't anticipate great things from Gus in the future.

MORNEAU, WHITT, JOIN CANADA FOR WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC

Ernie Whitt will manage Canada's team at next year's World Baseball Classic while star Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau has been named the squad's first player.

I think we have a shot at making some noise in the classic. I hope players like Jason Bay, Joey Votto, Mark Teahen, Ryan Dempster, Jesse Crain, Erik Bedard and Rich Harden play on the team

WOW ... the rich just get richer. I'm hating baseball more and more with every new signing the Yankees make now.

WTH is this. The Yanks just keep on spending money. They have the all 4 of the highest paid players. WOW I hope they don't even make it to the playoffs and come in last place with all the people on their roster getting injured

Man JP's 5 year plan was comeplete bullshit. The last few years we came in to the season with a good lineup on paper but still failed horribly.
Hopefully Cito can do what he did last year with less

The Jays have no shot this season. I don't care what Mike Wilner has to say, that they could potentially win 75-95 this season. I'd be shocked if they won 75 right now.

They're pitching beyond Halladay is terrible. They have no number 2, Litsch is a 4-5, Purcey is a 5-6, McGowan won't be fully ready until July (I know May, but rust et al) and Janssen I'm high on, but is a big question mark.

They're offence is terrible. Wells is not a strong offensive player, Lind will continue to grow, but Overbay is done as far as I'm concerned and Snider should play AAA next season.

As for the Yanks, they're morons. They overpaid for fool's gold in C.C Sabathia. The guy sucks in the playoffs and the Yanks want to make it to the playoffs and win. AJ is AJ. Mediocre. Tex should've stayed in the NL. He's a good player but I don't see him in that 'next' tier at all. The Yanks are still the third best team in the AL East with the Rays as the best next to the BoSox.

actually its $425 million on 3 players (C.C., Burnett, Teixeira)
I hear they are also thinking about signing Manny

The Yankees will end up signing the top 5 free agents. Nobody has made big signings except for the Yankees, of course the Mets signed Francisco Rodriguez.

The Yankees are taking it all. Guaranteed. Texiera is a player. Question now is what happens with Swisher?

The fuckin Yanks have an All-Star lineup, and their rotation is scary as fuck.
But as for our pitching it sohuld be Doc, Dustin (when he returns), Bring in Downs from the bullpen, litsch, Purcey. Maybe even Casey Jannsen instead of Purcey. N i think we should give up BJ Ryan for a power bat and have Accardo and League close out games.

They have no pitching. CC is great but what after that? They really don't have any pitching and their bullpen is pretty shaky.

^CC, AJ, WANG, JOBA (possibly) and Andy Petite is a great rotation and they still got Rivera. I think thats good enough pitching, they'll probably add some quality relievers because they are the yanks.

And they should give us Swisher for Overbay and a filler
Wont happen tho

CC is a great reg. season pitcher but doesn't show up in the playoffs.

AJ has had how many good seasons? 1? And he's 31 with a history of arm troubles. He had an above average ERA last season. Wang is solid. Joba is best suited for the closer's role and Pettite is a free agent.

Right now the rotation for NY is:

CC
AJ
Wang
? (Sheets is rumored as is Lowe)
? (Hughes)

Also, didn't you notice that Rivera was human last year? Joba should take over the closers role b/c he's not anywhere in the same league as Price, Lincecum or Gallardo.

Swisher could've been had but he'll either play LF or DH for them. He's perfectly suited for that new ballpark.

Again, can the Yankees compete with TB this season? No. Boston? Hell no.

If I'm the Jays, I call Milwaukee up and do one of two things:

Offer Lind for Gallardo (I don't think that would be enough but it gives us a solid no. 2 potential ace down the line) adn throw in BJ Ryan for JJ Hardy.

or see what they'd offer for Halladay, see if we could pick up Fielder, Gallardo and someone else.

Petite is gonna most likely re-sign, n yeah CC might have trouble in the AL especially n playoffs but he'll have to perform in NY. N if AJ stays healthy like last year he will be dominate. But yeah NY aint done

N NY would never dare to take Rivera out of the closers role unless he was pitching extremly shitty

Roy Halladay
Jesse Litsch
David Purcey
Casey Janssen
Scott Richmond/Ricky Romero/Matt Clement

bullpen/set up men: Brian Tallet/Scott Downs

closer: Jeremy Accardo

McGowan (out until June)
Marcum (out for '09)

there is talk on bringing Daniel Cabrera

if the Jays trade anyone it should be Ryan/Rios/Overbay

Pettite right now is a fifth starter at best. They should see if Hughes is there answer. And AJ has had how many dominante seasons? There's no coincidence that he was in his contract year last year and all of a sudden he lived up to it, eerily similar to the last time he was in a contract year. He's a .500 pitcher and he's a number 2 and now starting in the biggest stage in the world. Bank on a bad year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see ManRam sign in NY but he'll likely be in LA since that's the only contract he has.

Also, yeah Daniel Cabrera has signed in DC. He refuses to listen to instruction, so he'll always be mediocre.
