So C, looks like you're bang on about Lind. I read a report today that the Jays were interested in Milton Bradley as a FA.

Nobody else likes Dempster?

I'm really excited about this guy. I think would could get him for even less than Burnett. Plus, he's a Hoser, so he'll be a fan favorite and likely the fans and media will have more patience with him if he starts the season with a couple of bad outings.

Check out his bio on Wikipedia. It looks like he had Tommy John surgery back in 2003, and took a year off. After that, he was almost immediately put into relief instead of his former role as a starter. Last year was his first year back as a starter since his surgery.

I guess what I'm saying is that there seems to be a really good chance he can continue to perform at the level he did last year. He was excellent in relief, and his ERA went down substantially when he was put back into the starting rotation. Of course, this is what you'd expect when facing cold bats at the beginning of the game, and not entering the game in sticky situations.

The only concern I have is, isn't Wrigley Field considered friendly to pitchers? So, he probably won't be as effective when not pitching there regularly.

Isn't that almost exactly what Burnett's been making the last few?

I would think that would be almost exactly what JP is willing to spend on a replacement.

Unless he wants to upgrade the position players or bullpen - but this coming year it actually looks like the Jays are a little weak in the starting rotation.

I agree with Tommy though. Dempster has had one solid year and that money, he's basically Carl Pavano right now. Dempster should stay in the NL. His stuff is better suited there, kinda like Ted Lilly.

On a sidenote, how did Nick Swisher end up being delt to the Yankees for Wilson Betemit and change? Could we not have offered anything more substantial for him? I hate you JP.

JP is a twat. Word is the jays like Penny, i can dig that, always been a fan of his. Other Grumblings have us going after Giambi and Bradley for our DH next year. any thoughts?

Giambi is Frank Thomas 2.0 and Bradley hasn't strung together a solid year well ever. Again I'd look at Crede at the DH position. He isn't a great fielder and he'd be great insurance in case or when Rolen goes down.

C is right. I like Giambi because of the OBP and power, but his average sucks and he's a station to station player - once Dunn signs for crazy dollars, someone's gonna overpay Giambi. Bradley I wouldn't mind. He's got game (sorry for the pun). Penny's a horse. I'd throw money at Penny and Sheets.. or even go after Randy Johnson on a 2-year contract yeah he's a bit older, but he can still bring it and a lot of the younger guys can learn from him.

Penny is a favourite of mine. Sheets is AJ with more upside and if he could ever stay healthy a bona fide ace. Pat Burrell would be a nice choice as a DH as well.

I'd pass on Burrell. He's gonna want mega cash after the season he had.

Is he a FA? Why did I think he was a FA 2 years from now?

I wonder if Matt Cain is still available too? Lind for Cain?

i doubt the jays could pull cain from SF, just for lind. with all the talk of the braves going after peavy, ive read that if they fail to get peavy, they will focus on cain as a fall back plan.

sheets, i would definetly stay away from. hes the same thing as AJ, except he goes down for longer periods of time if im not mistaken.

penny, yes please.

lowe, yes please.

RJ, one year deal, yes please, anything longer, no way. word is the dodgers have interest in randy, and he only wanted 8M from the dbacks, to which they countered with something in the 2-3M range.

Giambi, even though he is station to station, is still an awesome hitter, and would bring alot more credibility to our lineup. I just hope he keeps the stache. that thing is killer!

Hey a man can dream can't he?

Do the Braves have bats in their system though? SF is looking hard for a LF with some pop.

This is more speculation than rumor, but David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wonders if the Braves could go after Matt Cain if their Jake Peavy pursuit falls through. It's an interesting thought, given reports of the Braves' mounting frustration with the Padres. At $13-15MM over the next three years, Cain is incredibly affordable. And I imagine the Braves' primary Peavy trade chips, especially the position players, would appeal to the Giants. Still, when asked last week if Cain is untouchable, Giants GM Brian Sabean replied in the affirmative.

I know the Braves are including JoJo Reyes and Yunel Escobar in their Peavy talks, so no LF there, but who knows. Wouldnt be suprised if Francoeur gets traded this offseason as well.

Yunel Escobar is a nice player but nothing special really and JoJo Reyes I'm mixed on personally.

The Braves just want to unload Francoeur as they've basically given up on him right now. There's a reclamation project worth exploring seeing how he's only 24.

I'd LOVE Francouer here. That dude is an RBI machine. He's much like Vernon where he's a slow starter, but he really picks it up after April.

NEW YORK - Major League Baseball owners have approved the shift of control of the New York Yankees from George Steinbrenner to his son, Hal.

The owners approved the change Thursday. Hal Steinbrenner and his brother, Hank, took over most of the daily operation of the Yankees from their father last fall. George Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973 and became one of the most high-profile owners in all of sports.

Hal Steinbrenner calls his father "a tough act to follow."

Is it me or do the Steinbrenner's remind you of the McMahon's from WWE

In other news Boston and New York are in contention for every free agent

I absolutely hate our GM. I hate the fact that he thinks everything is great and that we can compete next year.

We can't. Give it up. Rebuild this thing properly. Deal Doc for top tier prospects. Diel Rios for more. Give away Rolen. See if there are any takers for VW.

I'm tired of this, of course we can compete philosophy, injuries did us in. No, a lack of plate production did you in. We're so far behind the top tier teams right now.
