because Epstein is tight with his prospects - he doesn't want to overpay for a 32-year pitcher - even if he's one of the best in the business.

I guess but Doc still has a lot left in the tank. I'm sure he doesn't want the Yanks to get him either. CC, DOC, AJ, that's fucking insane. Two studs and a #2 guy at the 3 spot.

The Yanks' package is crap. Joba is not very good, Hughes is okay, Jackson is meh.

The New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers are on the verge of the first major trade of baseball's winter meetings, a deal that would send Tigers outfielder Curtis Granderson to New York, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

In the trade, the Diamondbacks would obtain Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy, while the Tigers will pick up Max Scherzer, Phil Coke and outfield prospect Austin Jackson.

Granderson!!!! What!?!? That is an amazing pickup for the Yanks! Diamondbacks get a good package, too. Edwin Jackson is a beast.

Less than a week after a report that the Toronto Blue Jays had "mild" interest in Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit, the two sides are reportedly discussing a trade at the winter meetings.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Toronto isn't the only team that is looking into Doumit. The paper says the Mariners and Giants are also interested.

While the report does not specify what the Blue Jays would offer in return for Doumit, the Post-Gazette does have a source that says relief pitcher Jeremy Accardo could be involved.

Doumit would be a good pickup, and that would mean that Pittsburgh would have no returning players from the 2007 starting lineup. They traded everybody away.

You're hyping up Granderson? Really? The guy for a leadoff hitter has a very low OBP and his BA has declined the past 2 seasons. Not to mention he strikes out a ton. They would have been better off trying to get Juan Pierre. Jackson is a steady pitcher, but beast? Come on. Tigers made out like bandits on this deal.

didn't you say Jackson is meh?
Jackson will most likely be better than Granderson in 3 years anyway, I don't know why the Yanks are in such a rush

Really? I thought they got the latter end out of the 3. And Granderson was a great pickup because now they dont have to choose between Damon and Godzilla. They can let Johnny walk and sign a player they'll use like maybe another starter or reliever. And like Windex said, Jackson will be good in a few years. DBacks looking good with the 3 headed monster of Webb, Haren and now Jackson.

Yeah, when I said Jackson was meh, I was refering to Austin Jackson. The Yankees never had Edwin Jackson.

Detroit not only pared payroll, which is something they needed to do with Michigan's economy, but they picked up a guy for the future in AUSTIN (don't want Windex to get confused) Jackson. He's probably a year from starting. He doesn't have a lot of power, but he plays good D, gets on base and has better speed. Scherzer put up better numbers than EDWIN Jackson last year and has better stuff than Jackson too. Daniel Schlereth is a nice pickup as well - he's a young, highly touted hard throwing lefty for the bullpen and Coke put up some solid numbers in the Yankees pen last year.

As for choosing between Damon and Matsui, Matsui was never going to come back to New York. When they didn't offer him salary arbitration, the writing was on the wall. The Yankees were going to retain Damon if anything (and probably will if Damon accepts a 2-year deal..he's looking for something in excess of that). At least he can play out in the field. Matsui can't. His knees are pretty much (if not already) shot. There's rumours going around that he's having discussions with the Angels.

E.Jackson is a decent piece for the D-backs as a #3 starter, but can he have success in the NL? Will Webb bounce back from his surgery? A lot of question marks there. They would have been better off with Max Scherzer as their #3.

Why? Jays have enough guys who can play the outfield, and fringe OFs at that.

If you can succeed in the AL, you can pitch anywhere.

Not necessarily. Some pitchers who have gone to the Japanese league from the AL have struggled mightily.

Church would be a nice utility player coming off the bench.

He can play all 3 OF positions, but so can Bautista, and so could Dropiak and probably Johhny Mac.
