Federer won the next two points and the match.
Do you think Roger played soft? I know he's not quite 100% as it is. I think Pete beat him in the second exhibition match. Doesn't seem possible.

I only started watching in the third set and it was 5-4 Sampras with Federer serving. I don't think Roger was treating it like a Grand Slam final, but he was definitely into the match. Pete looked rusty, but his first serve is still a cannon.

I still think watching Federer is more boring than watching Sampras. Part of it has to do with his attitude ... he shows no emotion on court ... yes, it's a good thing that he's so focussed but it's also really boring to watch. Part of it has to do with the fact that I just don't like him ... he's just way too smug. Yes, he deserves all the praise and everything but dude. Seriously. His Wimbledon blazer ... give me a break. He just really, really rubs me the wrong way.

That being said, he is a maestro on court ... I do love watching his forehands and backhands, and down the liners ... beautiful. But he is far more boring than Sampras ever was.

A lot of the journalists covering the tour talk about how accessible Roger is compared to Pete. Apparently, Roger invites them to dinner at his place once a year to hold court and shoot the shiznat. They all talk about how geniunely nice he is whereas Pete would only talk to certain high profile reporters and news outlets. Maybe he was shy, who knows.
My opinon of Pete back then as "boring" was based on the fact that, back in the day, I loved guys like Agassi and Jimmy Connors. Now, I enjoy watching Roger obliterate dingleberries like Roddick and in turn, make whiners out of the American broadcasters.
And I love his smugness. Reminds me of Gordon Ramsay -- not so much in temperment but in genius. Having such a wonderful, total grasp of your craft.

I always thought that Pete was just a shy guy and Roger definitely isn't ... just my impression though. LOL ... I hear you about watching Roger obliterate Andy ... I love it, too. Anyone who ousts Andy is ace in my books. But I still think Roger is boring ... Pete (and Roger) are definitely boring when compared to the likes of Connors and Johnny Mac and the only reason I say that is because he shows no emotion on court ... maybe if he punched the air or something after he won a point, but no. I have hardly ever seen him do that. At least Pete pulled out the serve-and-volley, and the jump-in-the-air-and-smash-the-ball ...
