The gold and silver medals, naturally, have a greater actual value. A gold is worth $644, yet is only one percent gold, with the rest made up of silver and copper. The silvers replace the gold element with extra copper, and are worth about half as much.

The bronze medals awarded at these games have been valued at just 3 ($4.71).

pretty sure our 4x100 sprinters felt like they were losing a lot more than a $5 medal.

Man i really can't shake the aftermath of that race from my mind. The shot of Jared Cnaughton (sp? - he's the guy that stepped on the line) at the closing ceremony said a lot. Guy looked miserable and in his own hell during a 'fun' concert.

Bronze is great. Especially since most of our bronze winners were happy as shit to get them. Looked to me like they won the lottery from what i saw.

yup. go Canada Go.

Too much emphasis on the color of the medal. I look at the total amount vs what color it is. Would have been great to have a couple more golds but ultimately we had a pretty good Olympics imo and i enjoyed them quite a bit. Same amount of medals as in 2008. And looking at the athletes faces when they won bronze or silver you could have sworn they won gold. Great to see. People are just never satisfied.

I kinda again...ugh, agree with Jeff, I thik I am more concerned with athletes posting personal bests, it shows that they showed up ready to go and pushed themselves past limits they had established. The did their best.

We need to either fund these kids better, or lay of putting so much pressure on them, it isn't fair to them.

what we need to do is copy the shit out of Australia and do the exact same thing. There's a country in a similar economic situation. yet they get sports right across the board.

I do agree with that. 4x100 relay is a premiere sport and for those guys to pull off a bronze would have been magical. What a run by Warner as he got the baton in 5th and just ran the anchor leg of his life

So Oscar Pistorius (remember him?) apparently shot and killed his girlfriend.

don't know all the details but shooting someone 4 times without knowing is odd... unless his eyes were closed or he was nowhere near a light switch.
