Maybe those ones who still want to compete into their late 30s? I just heard that Merlene Ottey (most decorated Jamaican athlete ever) has been competing for Slovenia since 2002. She's actually STILL competing and she's over 50! Damn!

Blake kind of gave Bolt a run for his money towards the end.

Blake is a great runner, but Bolt was still able to shut it down before the finish line.

This year was the last year for windsurfing in the Olympics! I grew up windsurfing in winter storms in Victoria, so that's kind of surprising to me.

It is being replaced by kiteboarding! Nooooooooooooo! LOL

I didn't see this but apparently the USA women's soccer team put on pre-made Champion t shirts right after they won the gold medal game yesterday. I know this is common in North American and with the stupid hats too (something i always thought looked tacky and classless, but i digress), but it really doesn't translate well in international soccer and it REALLY doesn't translate well in the Olympics.

This American soccer team has really shown themselves to be the assholes of the competition.

Bronze is the new Gold.

Fancy... did you manage to catch that Men's Beach Volleyball game that featured Poland against Brazil? If you didn't you should try to find it and watch it..... it was damn good. Your boys could be a threat in Rio if they build on that performance.

nah i didn't get to see it, but i heard it was intense. I watched a lot of the regular court volleyball which was insanely good though. Too bad Poland bowed out as soon as they did. They had a dissapointing games.

Eh the North American sports after champion ships its alright, both teams pre-make that stuff, whenever they get into a finals.

But I agree about it being on a world stage like that, not cool.

Usain Bolt on Carl Lewis: ‘I have no respect for him’ | theGrio

Quote:
LONDON (AP) — Usain Bolt took a momentary break from basking in his historic Olympic sprinting double to fiercely criticize Carl Lewis.

Soon after winning gold in the 200 meters at the London Olympics for 100 and 200 titles at back-to-back games, Bolt said Thursday he had “lost all respect” for Lewis after the American was quoted as saying Jamaica’s doping controls were not as strong as other countries.

While not making any direct accusations, former 100 and 200 Olympic champion Lewis has said in recent years that Jamaican drug testing procedures might need to be tightened.

The comments brought a stern reaction from Bolt at Olympic Stadium, right after he roared to an unprecedented second 200-meter title at the games. No other athlete has won the 200 twice at the Olympics, although Lewis won the event in 1984 and finished second in the 1988 Games.

With the smile that had been a constant fixture throughout his press conference vanishing from his face, Bolt lashed out at nine-time gold-medal winner Lewis after being asked if he’d like to be compared with him or late sprinting great Jesse Owens.

“I’m going to say something controversial right now. Carl Lewis, I have no respect for him,” Bolt said. “The things he says about the track athletes is really downgrading for another athlete to say something like that. I think he’s just looking for attention, really, because nobody really talks much about him.

“That was really sad for me when I heard the other day what he was saying. It was upsetting. I’ve lost all respect for him. All respect.”

Asked which specific comments from Lewis made him angry, Bolt replied: “It was all about drugs. Talking about drugs. For me, an athlete out of the sport to be saying that. That was really upsetting for me. Really upsetting.

“To jump up and say something like that. As far as I’m concerned he’s looking for attention. That’s all.”

Lewis, the former 100 and 200 Olympic champion, has raised questions in recent years about Jamaican drug testing procedures.

Following Bolt’s performance in Beijing, Lewis told Sports Illustrated: “Countries like Jamaica do not have a random program, so they can go months without being tested. I’m not saying anyone is on anything, but everyone needs to be on a level playing field.”

Bolt had already dealt with one question about doping when he was asked Thursday if he could guarantee that Jamaican sprinters — who swept the top three spots in the 200 — were clean.

“Without a doubt,” Bolt said, sitting in between silver medalist Yohan Blake and bronze winner Warren Weir. “We train really hard.”

Lewis has some serious nerve. He Sat by and like a douche watched Johnson take the heat for ALL of the sprinters in the 80's, was quietly stripped of all his own accomplishments and now has the balls to call out these guys? To this day people who don't know think he was a god and Ben was a cheater.... when the truth is, they were all on drugs and Ben got caught. Fact, Ben was the fastest man alive and not Lewis, but Lewis was a US marketing machine and EVERYONE covered up his shit for him, leaving Ben Johnson to get treated like scum around the world and here in Canada.

What a sad and pathetic thing it is to watch American celebrity fade into an insignificant existence.

Yup. Lewis doesn't deserve any respect. Complete hypocrit and really the poster boy of what was wrong with track during the 80's and early 90's. scum.

speaking of track, big time performance by Canadian 4x100 so far. Podium is a long shot, but it's definitely a possibility. Wouldn't that be something.

Would be amazing. Have we won a medal in that since 1996?

It was explained to me that the drug testers give the results back to the countries. It's up to them to "out" their guilty athletes.

Canada shit all over Ben_J and the US buried their results.

Anyone know what the process is?

You're right Raptorman. A buddy of mine wrote a nice article about it, Canada was all love head about Ben when he was on top of the Sprint community, when Canada threw him to the wolves, they treated him directly like "The Jamaican Born Ben Johnson", and no longer "Canadian Ben Johnson" and it's pretty sickening. My post focused more upon the US and Carl Lewis, but our oh so perfect system was just as horrible.

Terrible break for the men's relay. Not a lot of luck for Canadians in these games outside of that bronze medal soccer match.
