ha. you stayed up late and i woke up early.

good race. the Norweigan guy was on fire... the canoe race after was even better.

I also don't feel too good about the boxing decision yesterday that sent Custio Clayton packing. You win two of the three rounds and you'd think that was enough for a win. This one isn't as bad as some of the other ref/judging bad calls of the olympics, but something tells me that if this wasn't in london the outcome would have gone the other way. just a hunch.

ctv. cvtolympics.ca or something like that. you have to download some microsoft program, but it's pretty good.

maybe it doesn't work with certain browsers, or it didn't install properly on your computer. It's fine on my mac.

so there's not going to be any suspensions for the canada france game (which would have been the biggest slap in the face). Now i just really hope our girls can overcome/heartbreak the emotion of the US game and get their medal.

oh by the way: here are two questions i have had since the beginning of the games, but forgot to ask:

1. Why Chinese Taipei? What gives with this name and why not Taiwan?
2. Why does Hong Kong compete as its own country?

complaining. voicing frustration.

Which was basically the normal/expected reaction when you get royally screwed out of pretty much the greatest win your team was ever in the process of getting by an insane referreeing call.

Canada was up by 1. Canadian goalie gets called for delay of game. Instead of a warning or a yellow, ref allows a direct free kick in a really dangerous area (WTF). then canada block the shot only to be called for a handball even though it was clearly ball to hand (pretty much point blank shot). REf calls penatly. USA scores.

but going back to the free kick for goalie time delay. I watch a lot of soccer, and i've never seen or even heard of that happening. aqnyone else?

simply. HK accepts being a "province" of China while Taiwan doesn't want anything to do with the mainland. There was an agreement a while ago to call them CHinese Tapei and, of course, most countries side with China. They can't even use their own flag. Its sort of a punishment for being a renegade state. but there is still a big political party in Taiwan that wants to be part of China and I think they're the ones who accepted the name.

well to all that... im pretty damn pissed, as im assuming alotta canadians are. as for the free kick for goalie time delay, what I HAVE seen is an indirect freekick, from 40 feet out. or was it meters? im not sure, but it was 40. key point being however, INDIRECT. I don't know why it was considered direct. do the olympics have a different rule set?

I dont watch as much Soccer as you guys do, but I played quite a bit growing up. I don't remember seeing too many handballs called on shots blasted at a plyer trying to move from 10 feet away... thats the call I hated. Its just wrong. Its compounded obviously by the initial call that was basically only made becaus the young ref was intimidated by that goon bitch Wabach. Sad to watch man.

the handball call was overly harsh, but in my opinion the first foul (time wasting) was out of this world bogus. That one is NEVER called. Rarely in such instance a yellow card is brought out, but even that you don't see all that much.

As for the handball penalty, ya that one sucks and is a kick in the teeth however you actually do see that call made from time to time however inconsistant it may be.

Soccer officiating sucks. It's the worst officiated sport ever in all leagues.

Excited for the 200 M tomorrow. Hopefully Usain can repeat!

Also, I love watching some of the sports that you don't get to see on a regular basis - at the Olympics. I watched some handball and that stuff was awesome!

Flipping between the channels, watching some track and women's 10 M platform diving. I have so much respect for this. If you've ever been to the diving boards, and gone up and jumped off of the 10 - that's pretty impressive in and of itself. I had a goal (and did it last year) to backflip off of the 10 M. From the 5M was EASY, and then going up to 10 makes a HUGE difference. When I hit the water, my teeth slammed together so hard, that it my tongue was between them, I feel like I would have bitten it off. We take for granted how impressive some of these athletic feats are and all of the progress that it takes to get to be one of the best in the world.

She was a revelation this tourney. Almost as impressive as Sinclair. That duo is on par with Wambach and Morgan IMO. If she can keep up that level of play Canada should be a force in the future.

I do agree with bjjs though in that the team needs some work on defense... I'm still at a loss as to how they allowed that first goal and at times I thought there was too much ball-watching going on.

I really hope that they can win Bronze though.... that'll lessen SOME of the sting from that semi-final.

The handball is 50/50 normally I heard, but the way the game was being called you knew it would be called, and with the US players jumping and screaming when it happened. you can see her trying to spin away from getting hit..not purposedly smacking the ball down with her hand, her elbows are even tucked in to lower the chance of ball hitting hand..

The reason I hate that handball call though is consistency...if you are going to call that fine, I can accept, but then why not call the US even more blatent one about 10 mins before that? Or how about the ball being a foot out and still awarding the Americans the corner?

There are so many events going on at any time, yet we have to watch gargbage filler. Also i tend to watch the recaps at 7:00pm mostly, and doing that in that timeslot is infuriating. Show the goddam sports! Another problem i have is knowing when certain events are. i really hope CBC get the coverage to olympics back.

As for the soccer i am mad. This one is up there with the '93 Leafs and Kings game for me. That's all i'll say because i don't want to talk about it..
I wouldn't mind watching Difference makers: Christina Pedersen next year
