Hasn't drafted a stud. Unwillingness to do a true rebuild. Saying in his first season that the goal was playoffs, no long term vision/plan. Refusal to even discussing a 5yr plan or long term plan was stupid when he was first brought here. Him publicly saying that he wanted to aquire the number pick (tavares) and not geting it done. Building a suspect defense. His love for american collegiate players.

Disaster might be a little strong, but i don't think so.
Bingo.

The guy was brought in because he had success in Anaheim(he has Chris Pronger and Scott Niediermayer to thank for that, among others).

The team through and through is just flat out bad. Hopefully Nonnis has a few tricks up his sleeve. I like where they're going with getting JVR. Defence needs to be improved. Anytime you have Carl Gunnarsson on your top pairing you're in trouble. Not that he's terrible, but not a top pairing D man is all.

And IF they get Luongo, they'll be set in goal. But it's pretty likely they give up a good sized payment for him.

This team will go as far as Morgan Reilly will take them. Mark my words.

It's been known for a bit that Burke wouldn't give the pieces that Van wanted to get Luongo.

Welcome to prospect dropping for Luongo guys, enjoy.

I actually think if he can play to 90% of his prime it's a MAJOR upgrade for the leafs, may get them into 8th in the east.

I think its clear this is politics and nothing else. BC has been here for what, 7 years, with results worse than Burke in the aggregate. The reason BC still has a job is because the bosses up top like his corporate savvy, they love his high-collars and tailored suits, and they appreciate his media friendliness. BC represents good business and this organization is a business first, through and through. Burke is the antithesis to Bryan Colangelo. He tells it like it is, while BC panders and coats everything in fucking honey. The timing is horrendous, it puts everyone in a terrible position...there was obviously an impetus here.

Having said that BC could lose his job tomorrow and it would not surprise me at all.

I'd hate if Gardiner got traded in a Luongo deal. Same wit Frattin, I like that guys game.

Just watched Burkes press conferance. Wow he was hot ......he said that he was not satisfied on the reason they gave for the firing. However he did say a number of times that its ownership right to make those decisions like his firing. If you read between the lines it was Brian Burkes style as GM that got him fired. IMO Brian thought that he was the God in the Leafs organization.....did...said...whatever he wanted regarding hockey operations and he never cared what others including his bosses thought.
Brian during the press conferance talks about not changing his ways.....he will never change....he is who he is .....IMHO Brian had been asked to change his ways and he probably told his boss to shove it up their ass. Burkes refusal to change his style cost him his job IMHO.

copied from an article SJ posted in the NHL thread...

Burke got the axe Wednesday morning because Bell boss George Cope, after months of campaigning for Burke’s dismissal, finally wore out the Rogers suits and Larry Tanenbaum. The deal is that Rogers and Bell will vote as a bloc on all matters, and Cope is the lead actor in this stage play. It took him a while but he got his way and Rogers had to roll with the tide.

George Cope? or Hazel Mae?

This reminds me of the old hockey legend of Elvis Stojko knocking out Eric Lindros at a Muskoka bar.

Hockey gossip at it's best.
