Gotta say I watched last night after NY tied it .. I have a morbid desire to watch them choke and then needle my puck head brother.

The Leafs got into overtime and dominated the puck! They had crisp passes and a strategy! I check in every couple of years and this is the first time in a dogs age they looked good.

I'm not changing my name to Leafman just yet, but I have to admit I was impressed. I might even let my brother take me to a game. We'll see.

Wow I just remember why I'm not a fan of Hockey!

I look at NHL.com today & I was expecting to see that the Leafs had won 5 as I am a band wagon Leaf Fan....

Instead I saw that they had lost on the news side, so I opted to take a look at the league standings to see where they were at & in the loss column it said 0??

& then I thought to my self oh yah in the NHL when you loose you don't loose!

Man they gotta change win loss structure!F@#$@#$%

why?

It was a tie. There were ties for EVER. Us Hockey players could except that, it's an acceptable end to a game that is hard fought.

Over time and the shoot out are there to make Americans happy, they need to see a winner and a loser, there is no tie to an american. they don't generally have the mental strength and humility to accept that in a time restrained event, both teams could tally the same points. There is no ego boost there. They need ego gratification, and cannot find it in a tie.

Hockey players can. They respect the game and the opponent.

i understand using that line of thinking for shootout wins, but i see it differently for overtime wins. I too don't understand why a loss in OT is given a point. It never was before the shootout came about. (not to my knowledge at least although it seems like the NHL has changes its point system a lot recently so i may be mistaken).

However, i don't let the point system keep me from enjoying the game and being a fan unlike Halph, but that his perogative.

I missed the game. Are you simply asking about the goal? Or was Versteeg also issued a baloney high sticking penalty?

When it comes to goals, the crossbar is the standard for high sticking. It looks like a close call.

If the American comment alone is not enough to get you a +1 from Jeffy, then I don't know what will.

It's hockey-related. Jeff won't +1 a hockey comment unless it's along the lines of "Hey, hockey is for assholes!".

I'm asking about the goal because when the player is to the side of the net, aren't the player's shoulder height used to see if the player was high sticking or not? Seeing as the stick is lower then his shoulders, it should've been a goal.

It's not the shoulders it's the crossbar. Or has that changed?

I'm pretty sure that nolimitz is correct. the crossbar is only to measure when you are dealing with a puck batted directly into the net. that was not what happened here. it hit the shaft of versteeg's stick off the rebound... very clearly below his shoulder. blown call. we should have won anyway.... couldn't finish good chances.
