Jags or Saints moving to Canada?

Quote:

While sports fans in Winnipeg wonder about an NHL franchise relocating, it seems fans in Toronto can wonder about an NFL franchise coming to town. Toronto councillor Doug Ford says he was told last week by NFL Canada that Toronto is "right up there on the list" of cities awaiting NFL teams. "They have to take care of the problem in Los Angeles first," said the candid Ford, who is the brother of Toronto mayor Rob Ford. "Two teams are kind of in play here: Jacksonville's number one; New Orleans is the other. So there's two teams. Once they take care of Los Angeles, we're going to fly over to New York, set up a meeting with [NFL commissioner Roger] Goodell and give him our pitch." One problem, Mr. Councillor. The city lacks an NFL-ready venue, according to Goodell.

in a recent interview with The Globe and Mail, the mayor’s brother said a stadium at the Hearn site could be the anchor for a massive redevelopment of the Portlands that would “turn this dump site into a wow factor.” It would include dramatically designed residential buildings and high-end retailers such as Macy’s department store. A monorail elevated transit system would link it to downtown.

The Jags I get, they've been having problems for years as far as I understand. I don't get the whole thing with LA and packing that place with teams when half suck and don't go very far (throughout all sports I mean not specifically football)

New Orleans I don't get though, I figured they were alright, solid attendance (as far as I know) and just won a superbowl, I don't get what makes them available to move...

Saints signed for another 20 years at the SuperDome. Ford was just hyper and not thinking.

Jags, Rams, Chargers are most likely to move. Vikings are getting closer to getting a new stadium and there's the Bills. And good luck getting the Raiders out of Davis' death grip.

LA is important as market because of television exposure, revenue etc.

Why Toronto is obsessed with obtaining an NFL team, I'm not really sure though.

the one league without a team in LA generates the highest TV revenue...weird aint it :cookie:

People say Toronto doesn't need a team and they can just drive down to Buffalo
guess what...San Diego is 2 hours away from LA

I believe this has all been sqaushed today and Doug Ford was actually on the FAN appologizing for starting or promoting the rumour of any team moving here.

They've had trouble selling tickets the last couple games. And the Rogers Center isn't even that big by nfl standards. Now, it could be successful with a new stadium and more reasonable ticket prices.

they would sell more tickets if team was actually from canada and/or if they didnt suck balls for the past decade...

also more meaningful games would be nice.....
